Cant find my (out of date) Memory Map discs to upload onto new computer so I'm looking at a new setup which is similar to the old one, IE, pick a region, trace a route, measure the distance, print it off, ride it. I don't possess a device to follow a route on & (still) enjoy the concept of looking at & reading a massive piece of paper, the 'old fashioned way'.
I've looked on the MM website & the 50k map of the whole of Britain is £100, but I don't want the whole of Britain, just northern England & Scotland. The 25K version is £300 & still covers the whole country. Is the OS Getamap system any good/value for money for instance?

I use http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm for 50k

It's not ideal though, as they have a limited amount of OS data they can serve per day (which tends to run out by evening)

There is also http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/maps/ which will give you 25k without usage limits if you register a free account. It has less features, but you can always screenshot and crop (and stitch) to print stuff out.

As nifty as Memory Map is I resent paying for maps in any sort of proprietary format.

I read the post and was going to suggest OSGETAMAP. You get the whole of the UK at both 1:50K and 1:25K for £19/year or thereabouts and the mals are regularly updated. They are often doing discounted subscriptions too.

Allows you to plot onto an OS map - lots of great routes too
