Just noticed that Mapometer now supports (at least for my local area) footpaths / bridleways etc - if you don't use GPS and want to check approx distance/elevation/calories etc of a ride/run then it's much easier now as you don't have to plot a series of straight lines through the countryside, it automatically follows the path you rode along (similar to how it does for normal roads)

Edit: should add you need it on Terrain or Satellite view to see the pathways
