Anyone got any suggestions for getting slightly manky bottles clean? There's a layer of gunk on the bottom of one of mine I can't shift, and the bottle brush doesn't quite reach. Milton? Cut my losses and bin?

You could try Miltons or similar but at some point, I reckon they'll need replacing (I seem to have to use sterilising tablets about every 2 months)

Will they be OK on the bottom shelf?

I normally just have water in mine. Anything else, remember to give them a good soak. Mine will usually get manky at the valve, and I just bin them. They have had a good 2 years service by then though.

In order, depending on severity

- rinse

- bottle brush (have a Camelbak one from must be 25 years ago !)

- Milton fluid (one bottle lasts years !)

- dish washer.

Or a combo of the above.

For 'normal' (not Camelbak) bottles periodically pull out the stopper from the cap to clean properly - put in hot water to soften the plastic then pull out much more easily with either my Leatherman pliers or even by hand.  That defo helps.

I agree with Mr Ajobb up there and just want to add that all but the cheapo freebie bottles from events have stood up to bottom level dishwasher for me.

Going to give the dishwasher a punt as it won’t make them worse… Will report back.

Milton sterilising fluid and as much disassembly as the valve will take.

But they should really be replaced every couple of years, they seem to reach a certain age and the plastic just deteriorates then I wonder how much microplastic and general bacteria I'm taking in with each sip from them... 🤢

I just bung them in the dishwasher. Top or bottom shelf, wherever they fit. Sometimes they get a bit of a dishwasher tablet taste, but then you just wash them a few times in the sink and it goes.
