Hi guys, just bought a set of Mattoc pro 2 forks for a ridiculous price from CRC, but i always like to drop the lowers and check the seals etc when fitting. So for this i need a thin walled 8mm socket and a couple of other bits. Now as much as i don't mind forking out for specific tools at 65 euros delivered i'm finding this a bit steep. Do any Manitou mattoc owners know of any alternatives or should i just spend spend spend. Cheers

I turned down a deep  1/4 drive 8mm socket and 24mm socket.  I haven't got round cutting a section out of a cassette tool yet.

Mick, I understand the sentiment. Saying that I'd rather send my cash to someone like yourself.

If you did want to make a set of happily send you the cash first.

I would just turn a socket down on a lathe, however if that is not an option;

Do you have a hand drill and a bench grinder? If you want a functional bodge you can put a bolt and washer through a socket, washer on the back then a nut to clamp the socket, double nut if needed. The bolt thread is then held in the drill chuck, with both the drill and bench grinder running you will get reasonably even metal removal with a steady hand.

No special tools required for lower removal. I just use a 4mm allen inside of the bolt where the poppet valve pokes out instead of thin walled socket. Remember they undo clockwise!

Thanks all, sorted now but good to know it's just an Allen key job to get the lowers off.

Wouldn't mind these tools myself.

Any recommendations other than official kit or create the tools myself

Don't suppose you could tell what the outer diameter of the socket should be?

Could a box spanner do the thin sockets job?

It needs to be really thin, there is a thread on here somewhere where somebody kindly told me the dimensions and I promptly forgot all about it.

This all day.

One of the Park Cassette tools works - the cut out tool is shit and flexes really badly.

Top forks though especially for what CRC sell them for - get the IRT upgrade too.

I posted a load of pics and sent the OP a toolkit he said it worked
