Oh well, tempted to give it a go as rest of bike spec is ideal (Cube Acid 27.5, 2015)

Its an oem version of the R7 in 26 & 27.5, just slightly heavier

I know Manitou forks are a bit of a joke on stw but I still use a set of 2001 Mars and 2006 R7 on commuter and xc bikes, which despite total lack of tlc still are doing ok. I think they are like little girls, when they're good they're very good, but when they're bad ... I can't comment

My set of R7 from 2006-ish are ok. Rim brake and disc mounts, very little love, never let me down in 20,000km. I've no doubt others have had less pleasing experiences

Manitou have a bad reputation because of their late '90s and early 2000's forks. The TPC and TPC+ forks such as the Dorado and the Mattoc are meant to be some of the best damped forks on the market, up there with BOS at half the price.

It's just a shame the Mattoc looks like particualy gopping fork straight out of 2001.

Thanks, seems a little weird that Cube spec them as upgrade over rockshox xc30 on lower level bikes, I guess its a cheap air fork.
