Hi all,
I'm into bikepacking, so favour reliablity, simplicty and parts which are likely to have a wide coverage in terms of service. I saw some Manitou forks get good write ups and are plus sized friendly, yet have a tempting price. However given my needs, would there be any reason to stay with RockShox or Fox?
Been running Manitou Towers on my winter bike for 3 years, couple of oil changes & a new set of seals last winter. Still mint condition, stanchion coating seems tougher than rockshox too
Great forks
had mattoc pro2's for a while with the IRT chamber. amazing forks, easy to work with (no bladder) and with the latest seal they are on par with fox/RS etc for lack of stiction.
I had some Manitou Magnum Comps, which have their mid-range damper in them. I've heard good things about the ones with the posh dampers but I was never very keen on the Comps - they dove a lot and didn't really seem to have much control. However, if you're backpacking ultimate performance is likely to be less important and if they're significantly cheaper I'd go for them. I'd find some second hand 2018 Revelations myself.
I've got a Manitou Mattoc Pro 2, very nice fork and a bargain at £299 when I bought them.
They did have to go back under warranty for a new air spring though.
Had 2 Towers - one comp and one pro. The comp was great, but the pro blew it's damper in the cold and CRC deemed it not worth repairing so they refunded me. Can't really complain though as it was near the end of the warranty period. Both versions rode well.
How about a lauf? You might get a secondhand one for the price of a new manitou.
Got a set of R7MRD on the race bike, Manitou's top end XC fork but still managed to get brand new for £300.
Have been far more reliable than SIDs and Magura Durins, would definitely recommend.
Really wish they would do something as light in 29 with a straight steerer, would definitely have some of those!
