Hi all,
I am looking for people to ride with. I had previously been riding occasionally with a Lancaster based club. Many of the rides where in the lakes which were often just too far to travel every other week or so. I’d prefer more options closer to home. I live in south Manchester. It’s been a crap year with an ongoing back injury and I’ve struggled to get out and meet people. 4 years after moving here meeting new people is getting more difficult. I also can’t go riding to many places on my own as I’m still not familiar with many areas. I have met a couple of people off here which has been great 🙂
Thanks
Colin
There’s aManchester club based through the meet up page or was.
MartynS and NBT off of here all ride South Manchester way (Marple/New Mills) and are perfectly lovely chaps. They used to have a regular ride one evening a week, dunno if they still do
Get yourself round the M60 to North Manchester on Monday evenings. Look for the MNPR threads, there are literally no better bike rides which include beer and crisps on a Monday night anywhere within 5 miles of Prestwich.

That's the ropiest claim since the one on the side of the Brexit Bus
Hello, we won't burn you. though we don't ride very regularly.
Manchester's quite big. Are you north (MNPR pub rides are very friendly), East, South, West or Central?
You still up for next Monday Julian? Will understand if not as Engerland may well be playing.
Speaking on my husbands behalf (which I do a lot), he is indeed leading the ride.
Badger or no badger I'm out.(meaning outside and riding with you all).
Colin you are welcome to join us anytime. I'll get nbt to mail you next time there's a local ride from Marple/NewMills area.
I recently relocated to Bolton from merseyside due to the love for a women, so i know what you mean about meeting new people.
I don't get to the MNPR much due to working in Liverpool until 6 or 7pm, but they are a good group, you should join them!
I got chatting to a couple of lads from Chorlton the other day who were trying to start a little group up, they'd only been round Clayton Vale so far though 😀
I added one of them to Facebook, as soon as I remember what his name was I'll let you know.
Depends how south you are, or where you work, but we ride from Bollington every Thurs at 6:30.
Some rides are local, some are a drive away to places like 3 Shires, Chinley, etc.
There's about 30 of us in total and 8-12 on most rides.
There's a group on the meetup site,Manchester Mountain Bikers.
I went on a couple of rides with them, they seem a good bunch. I just can't be arsed to put the bike in a car & drive to ride the bike so I stopped going. They do rides around the Peak district & over the East of Manchester as well as weekends away. You could do a couple of rides as a guest so it costs you nothing to do a couple of rides with them.
I'm definitely riding, I'm not really a football fan* and the match will hopefully mean trails are less busy
Park at Trinity Street car park (free) and we'll have a drink afterwards at Beer Traders

*slight understatement
Thanks for all the replies so far.
When I moved here nearly 4 years ago I went on a few of the MNPR rides. I was living in Royton at that point so was pretty handy to me. I’m near Chorlton so just inside the M60. I couldn’t stay after for the usual beer and crisps but was always made to feel welcome. Would be good to meet up with the Marple/New Mills groups etc and would like to get to know more of the Peak District.
Probably not much use to you, but Hayfield, Glossop and Chinley all have FB-based riding groups. Stockport Clarion have- or at used to have - a mountain biking wing. There's also a group called Twisted Wheels MTB which used to be linked to the Bicycle Doctor shop - previously called the Flying Doctors - a few of them are Chorlton based.
Nice guys, generally have one big weekend ride a month plus ad hoc evening outings from time to time. Not sure how you'd contact them these days, they used to have a basic website, but now I think it's run solely via a secret FB group page. Not sure how I'd put you in touch with them now they're a secret society and all...
Borderline there Nettles, borderline...
You know, you're right, apologies. I've asked the mods to remove it.
Cheers for sorting that Nettles
back on topic - Stockport Clarion do still run a regular off road ride - wednesday evening from the Arden Arms in Stockport. Reasonably fast pace and they do cover some miles
if you can come over on Monday, do join us. Harry The Spider will post up details of the start time, I think they normally say meet at 8 to depart 8.15. Will be out till about 10pm I guess. We can have a chat about other rides then. Some of the MNPR crew live round chorlton way (I think)
Just realised that Beer Traders don't open on Monday which is a real shame as they do a wonderful Rhubarb Cider from Flat Tyre brewery. It's like drinking pop, then your legs stop working. We might try The Samuel Oldknow instead
Is the meeting point postcode still valid for Monday now that the pub has changed?
Pubs with carparks work better. I'm not leaving my Gnarrpoon unattended.
We could default to the Ring o'Bells, but the carpark is not overlooked by the beer garden, it's around the back of the pub

Yeah, let's do that. It was alright in there.
Okey doke. New landlord so pub is better than it used to be. 8pm in the ringers carpark then?
Yes, there will be no 'Merry Christmas' in July, unlike last time.
I will try and make Monday nights ride. Please excuse me turning up on the big bouncy bike. With impending back surgery I need to keep things as soft and comfortable as I can. I’ve been doing a few XC races lately and the hardtail has been tight work on my back.
I've just remembered I need to renew my passport.
I'm up to date with my jabs though so i should be reet
