I've been asked if I fancy taking part in the Manchester 100 ride on 4th Sept. You can either do the short route, 100km or the long route 100 miles.

I've only been back in the saddle for about 8 weeks, and have not attempted anything like 100 miles while out, maybe 30 at most.

Is anyone familiar with the route the ride takes? If it's 100 miles of relatively flat roads I think I could manage it, but if say half is hills I might give it a miss.

cheers

Did it a couple of years ago, there are no hills. Even with a wind from the west, the outward leg is quite sheltered, so not difficult. I'd go as early as you can, and eventually you'll end up riding with people going at your pace.
It's still 100 miles though, so make sure you can manage the time on the bike.

The route is on connect.garmin.com so long as they haven't changed it.

I actually did it on Saturday, it's a very nice route, there are no massive hills, mostly flat, with a few small climbs around Delamere Forest and towards the Welsh border.

Had a head wind on the way out and was taking it easy, but was much quicker on the way back. Was supposed to be with some others but they bailed because of the weather. Ironically I got sunburned over near Wales and it appeared only to be raining over Manchester, so I was fine until I got back to Wilmslow.

I did the 100km route about 2 years back on my single speed.
As others have said it's pretty flat ,only 2 hills that I had to get off and push,1 on the way out and I had gone out too fast and one on the way in when I had run out of steam.

Can't commenton the longer route ,longest training ride I had done was about 30 miles beforehand.
