That title sounds awfully like clickbait.
yes that was the intention, I think the term is parody
edit: yes
parody/?par?di/
noun
an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect.
Although 'comic effect' is subjective.
Gotcha.
Adam's lifey ears?
Has anyone managed to cycle round the world without fanfare? Seems like every week there is someone bigging up their expedition, never to be heard of again.
Genuinely, i'm sure it will be amazing and best of luck to him.
*dons super-cynical hat* - but all that conspicuous do-gooding sounds exhausting to me. 🙂
^, a mate set off two years ago with 10k of his life savings to last him as long as possible, i get an occasional postcard with a smiley face on the back and that's it, there's no email contact, no blog, no twitter, no Facebook etc.
Nice! 10k could go a long way on a bike tour...
Hell yeah 10k would last a long time. With the tent and the wife we were spending 12 quid a day typically - inexpensive countries
Batter into eastern europe/northern africa/ex ussr and your money goes along way assuming you dont project wealth and have your witts about you l
He was born on the road so to speak, throughout late 70's/80's touring round Aisia/India/various stans etc then back through Europe to UK as a kid by his alternative parents and he can get by in a conversational way in multiple languages so i imagine i'll prob not see him again for a long long time (if ever) as he will be quite happy living on an absolute pittance and making do with what comes his way - but that's not to belittle in any way what Adam is doing up there ^, it takes all sorts and there is no right/wrong way to "get out there and do stuff.
btw - 5 postcards in 25 months, to be honest i'm kinda surprised i've received so many from him 😀
Good on Adam btw for his charity stuff he's doing along the way.
Honestly, I have respect for either approach. I'm probably more suited to/would prefer the dirtbag (meant in a nice way) touring though. As it is, i'm rotting in front of a desk so can hardly talk!

Saw him at the top of the climb out of Askrigg in about 2002. He'd flown from New Zealand to the USA, bought all his gear there, rode around America, popped into Canada, flew to Ireland & rode round there, got the ferry to Wales & rode round there, joined the Pennine way & was riding that. Then he was heading to Scotland, back down to Newcastle to get the ferry to Holland then hopefully heading back to New Zealand all/mainly cycling. I think he said he'd taken 2 years out to do it.
Never mentioned his name & I've no idea if he ever completed his trip.
I did three years on the road in the mid nineties, think I wrote to my Mum every six months, that was it! The one regret about disappearing for a bit was that my brother died in a climbing accident and I didn't know. Missed his funeral by 2 weeks. Seeing your parents grey faces at the airport and being ushered into a side room was not a pleasant experience. Strangely I wasn't due back but thought I ought to come home to see family for Christmas that year. I was back on the road in the new year.
Years ago (when I was cycling 'the worlds most dangerous road' in Bolivia) I met a couple who had been cycling around the world for over ten years... essentially they'd been cycling so long they could not see how they'd fit back into 'normal' life and had decided to just keep cycling....
