Yay! Great news.
Just had to come back into work (19:30 Friday) and seeing that has cheered me up no end.
Excellent news 🙂
I'll drink to that. never met him but enjoyed his posts no end. delighted that there will be more...
Glasses of the good stuff being raised to your good health tonight SFB.
Yey \o/ Excellent news.
Good to hear keep on fighting Simon.
Crikey, is that really "Simon Fell"? 🙄
No recent news I hope this means that steady progress is still being made. Get well soon sfb 🙂
All the best sfb and get well soon
Wot Ski said.
Update from his son is that he's being allow visitors later this week but is still on partial sedation and can't really talk. Keeps drifting in and out of lucidity.
You can probably view him being unable to talk in a good or bad way really!
But he seems to be improving steadily.
Glad tidings! Thanks, crazy-legs.
Jesus! I don't usev the forum so much but I wish him all the best, I liked his pics and his arguments with others. Surprised someone who cycled as much as him had a heart attack.
Good to hear each day he's a little better. Thanks for posting Crazy-Legs
partial sedation and can't really talk. Keeps drifting in and out of lucidity.
I was like that last night after a few sherbets....! 🙂
Great to hear things are progressing.
Theres been a face book post about people visiting soon so I think that can only be good news
tails
can't be sure but if you read the whole thread it was caused by a blood clot and not furred up arteries (stand to be corrected if not the case).Surprised someone who cycled as much as him had a heart attack.
Glad you're progressing well Simon.
good luck barnesy, keep on keeping on mate.
Bunny hop is correct. Blood clot rather than traditional gummed up arteries and valves...
Sorry Simon, I'm late to this as I've been away riding and working. We need people like you, Simon....So make sure you get better
All the very best Billyboy
good news that you're getting better Simon.
An update on fb from a friend who visited him:
Really pleased to say that Simon was really well today. I had seen him on Sat and the improvement in the few days is fantastic. Nurses said that he may be moving from the unit he is in to another, possibly in Lancaster soon. He seems to be heading in the right direction. Really good to see him today.
good to hear you are getting better Simon.
Looking forward to him posting about why we were all wrong to comment on this thread. Keep going fella.
Sounds good. Cheers for the update
Thanks for update
Good to hear, appreciate updates.
Latest from his son is that Simon is off the sedation and more or less completely awake, able to understand things and respond. He's still quite weak though so currently nil by mouth.
They seem hopeful that they can move him to Lancaster Hospital next week (much nearer his home).
Good to hear he's making steady progress.
I visited Simon this afternoon and was pleased to see that he's clearly making good progress physically, although he was clearly frustrated at still being nil by mouth (tried eating several times but causes him to cough severely).
He's hoping to be moved to Lancaster tomorrow, after a camera procedure to check on his vocal chords as he's finding it painful to talk loudly at present. He referred to the nurse who operates the throat camera as 'the evil camera wielding woman'! The irony of SFB being harassed by a woman with a camera wasn't lost on any of us 😀
Simon is aware of this thread, although he's not in a position to read it at present, and showed great gratitude for all the get well soon wishes etc. He even had a typical cheeky grin at the mention of the 'we never saw eye to eye but I wish you well' type comments!
This is great news. I can not remember such a great start on a Monday morning.
Excellent news
Bloody fantastic news
Great news.
Good effort, been reading through the tread this evening. Glad he's on the mend. Big well done to everyone involved.
PS: Was there a bit on 'Early warning signs'?
Thx
good news indeed. once you are well barnes, I might drag you round a invalids route in grizedale......... 😀
great news
Thanks for the update John. Looking forward to the point where SImon is able to read this and contribute himself
simon is typing and talking on FB...... 8)
Excellent.
WTF??? Facebook but not here? I thought he liked us after all the well wishes?!
Well, at least he's getting better....
Facebook but not here? I thought he liked us after all the well wishes?!
I suspect he's not on a perma-ban on Facebook....
He's apparently being moved to Lancaster Hospital today, it's much closer to his home.
thanks everyone 🙂 I don't have the stamina to read that lot yet, and am currently learning how to walk in a a straight line again. As JC says, the most frustrating part is not being able eat whatever I like due to larynx damage after 2 weeks intubation 🙁
I am sure you will have time as you get back to full strength. Welcome back to STW. Great to see you back amongst the "hive".
Welcome back, Simon! So can we all start arguing now? 😉
good stuff SFB!
Tell them to put the pipe back and poor migimix'd steak&chips down your gullet, with a brandy chaser, natch.
Nice one Simon.
I'm seriously pleased you are on the mend.
Great to see you're back.
Kick on, fella.
Good on ya simon, when can we expect pics of the nurses arses?.....yeah...yeah.... i realise this is a sexist comment so feel free to post both male and female arses but if it's all the same to you i'll just pass comment on the female bottoms........
🙂
I don't have the stamina to [s]read that lot[/s] argue yet
Fantastic. All the best to you.
Good to see you back Simon 🙂
I'm looking forward to Ton's invalid ride led by you Simon.
Bunnyhop x
Welcome back sfb
Stop whinging SFB, good to have you back young man.
So - does it take a heart attack to get a ban lifted? 😆
Best wishes on your road to a full recovery - glad to hear you're on the way back.
cheers
So - does it take a heart attack to get a ban lifted?
He was never given a permanent ban, he just sort of left the forum of his own accord a couple of years ago although he posted very occasionally on Lakeland ride topics.
Maybe the heart attack was brought on by stress of NOT arguing on here!
He's been active again on Facebook - moaning about hospital food. 🙂
🙂
Sort your grammar out Simon
Nice to see you back
Popped into see him today and he is in good spirits spoke briefly he has not much recollection of the incident. He is being released tomorrow 🙂
He is being released tomorrow
Well that's good news ! 🙂
Just checked in on this thread again. Bloody good to see you on here, posting of your own accord, sfb! I am delighted you are recovering so well. 8)
Asabove says, also just checked in on Simon's progress, fantastic news to hear his on the mend. Glad this thread has a happy ending. All the best on your recovery and hope you get back out on the trails soon.
Good to hear you're due to be let out today!
Any photos of nice nurse's arses to post from your stay?
What's this I hear, Mr Barnes? You've been trying to beat me across the River Styx? Fat chance 🙂
Try to Get. Well. Soon. I quite fancy making a comeback, and you were one of the few worth annoying.
cuterunner.
xxx.
😀
Good to see you posting SFB.
update: I'm out of hospital and crazy-legs dropped me off at my mum's last night. I expect to be home tomorrow evening. I can walk but very slowly after losing 2st. mostly from my upper legs. I'll enrol in the hospital cardiac recovery physio programme and hopefully by December I'll be allowed to ride my bike along the canal 🙂 The doctor's notes mention diffuse brain injury, but my memory seems to be intact and in fact my thirst reflex has actually been restored, where previously I'd only know I was dehydrated when I got a headache! OTOH I've lost my taste for chocolate and other very sweet things!
Amazing news Simon and sure your mother will feed you well so will soon get your weight back.
Wahey! He's back!!! Glad to hear you are back around. Remember, that loss of sweet taste is not a bad thing.
Good luck with the physical therapy too. Keep at it and good luck for your continued recovery.
thats great news, now just stay away from daytime tv!
Great news SFB. Good luck for a speedy recovery.
I was going to post to say I'd given him a lift to his Mum's house but thought it was better him saying that himself. 🙂
now just stay away from daytime tv!
He posted on FB earlier to say walked a whole mile down to Costa. Took him a while but it kept him away from daytime TV!
Here's to continued recovery.
I know you've probably done it already, but pin your Cardiologist to the wall and discover EXACTLY what caused your issues. They're often reluctant to go into detail, yet once you know the precise causes you can tailor your rehab to ensure the chances of a repeat are minimised.
Don't believe anything you're told. CHECK EVERYTHING yourself. The NHS is not what it was in my day.
Stay positive, keep smiling, hope to see you in the flesh one day 🙂
He posted on FB earlier to say walked a whole mile down to Costa.
Great news, SFB, photos, please.
Good news SFB, heres to a steady recovery....
