Update from his son is that he's being allow visitors later this week but is still on partial sedation and can't really talk. Keeps drifting in and out of lucidity.

You can probably view him being unable to talk in a good or bad way really!

But he seems to be improving steadily.

can't be sure but if you read the whole thread it was caused by a blood clot and not furred up arteries (stand to be corrected if not the case).

Glad you're progressing well Simon.

Bunny hop is correct. Blood clot rather than traditional gummed up arteries and valves...

An update on fb from a friend who visited him:

Really pleased to say that Simon was really well today. I had seen him on Sat and the improvement in the few days is fantastic. Nurses said that he may be moving from the unit he is in to another, possibly in Lancaster soon. He seems to be heading in the right direction. Really good to see him today.

Latest from his son is that Simon is off the sedation and more or less completely awake, able to understand things and respond. He's still quite weak though so currently nil by mouth.

They seem hopeful that they can move him to Lancaster Hospital next week (much nearer his home).

I visited Simon this afternoon and was pleased to see that he's clearly making good progress physically, although he was clearly frustrated at still being nil by mouth (tried eating several times but causes him to cough severely).

He's hoping to be moved to Lancaster tomorrow, after a camera procedure to check on his vocal chords as he's finding it painful to talk loudly at present. He referred to the nurse who operates the throat camera as 'the evil camera wielding woman'! The irony of SFB being harassed by a woman with a camera wasn't lost on any of us 😀

Simon is aware of this thread, although he's not in a position to read it at present, and showed great gratitude for all the get well soon wishes etc. He even had a typical cheeky grin at the mention of the 'we never saw eye to eye but I wish you well' type comments!

thanks everyone 🙂 I don't have the stamina to read that lot yet, and am currently learning how to walk in a a straight line again. As JC says, the most frustrating part is not being able eat whatever I like due to larynx damage after 2 weeks intubation 🙁

So - does it take a heart attack to get a ban lifted? 😆

Best wishes on your road to a full recovery - glad to hear you're on the way back.

He was never given a permanent ban, he just sort of left the forum of his own accord a couple of years ago although he posted very occasionally on Lakeland ride topics.
Maybe the heart attack was brought on by stress of NOT arguing on here!

He's been active again on Facebook - moaning about hospital food. 🙂

update: I'm out of hospital and crazy-legs dropped me off at my mum's last night. I expect to be home tomorrow evening. I can walk but very slowly after losing 2st. mostly from my upper legs. I'll enrol in the hospital cardiac recovery physio programme and hopefully by December I'll be allowed to ride my bike along the canal 🙂 The doctor's notes mention diffuse brain injury, but my memory seems to be intact and in fact my thirst reflex has actually been restored, where previously I'd only know I was dehydrated when I got a headache! OTOH I've lost my taste for chocolate and other very sweet things!

I was going to post to say I'd given him a lift to his Mum's house but thought it was better him saying that himself. 🙂

now just stay away from daytime tv!

He posted on FB earlier to say walked a whole mile down to Costa. Took him a while but it kept him away from daytime TV!

Here's to continued recovery.

I know you've probably done it already, but pin your Cardiologist to the wall and discover EXACTLY what caused your issues. They're often reluctant to go into detail, yet once you know the precise causes you can tailor your rehab to ensure the chances of a repeat are minimised.

Don't believe anything you're told. CHECK EVERYTHING yourself. The NHS is not what it was in my day.

Stay positive, keep smiling, hope to see you in the flesh one day 🙂
