Shit, I saw something on FB yesterday from one of the Bogtrotters asking for contact details for Simon's son but all it said was he'd had "an off".

Best wishes for a swift recovery Simon.

Last time I saw him he offered me a sweet. As I was munching on it he kept said-sweets in a old chamois-cream arse jar thing.

Hope he makes a full and fast recovery. Thoughts to his family and friends.

Brilliant work looking after him until the paramedics got to you, undoubtedly traumatic but sounds like they kept their heads and looked after him. Sure he will be buying a few guys some beers.

Best wishes sent in SFB's direction, never met the chap, but have conversed with him other than on here - one of the good guys, and it's quite a shock as he's always struck me as being fit as a fiddle.

Simon is very fit for his age, and his heart attack was caused by a blood clot rather than furred arteries etc, which the doctors saw as a positive situation.

The next 24hrs will be crucial as they bring him round and assess for other issues / side affects associated with heart failure. We'll post more details as soon as possible and with the agreement of his immediate family.

The sheer volume of the messages in this thread will mean a great deal to his family, and the praise for the members who administered CPR before the first responders arrived on the scene are a great comfort. Without their intervention, this would have been a very different thread altogether.

Get well soon Mr Barnes. I'm still in shock at the news, Simons photos and his maps inspired me to ride in the Lake District (I'd started riding relatively late in life) and after a few years of great weekends in the lakes i'm his debt. Healing wishes

Shocking news! Simon was his usual self Thursday night at the Biggie's AGM - taking photos offering to lead rides and as contrary as ever

Apparently the ambulance from Lancaster to Blackpool went all the way on footpaths 😉

Here is to speedy recovery!
