Due to weather the team have cancelled
See their FB HERE

Gutted for everyone involved! So much hardwork from the organizers gone to waste and many excited bikers plans scuppered. Good old British weather..

Living 20 minutes down the road I can confirm it’s the right decision! Site would be lethal! Never get cars and vans off site again. It’s been raining non stop all week!

Having attend the last Mountain Mayhem at Eastnor (2013 irc) when people had to be towed into the campsite which then became a swamp.
I think Si has made the right call.

Just had a phone call about this as I was on my way to the site, absolutely wretched situation for Si and his team.

This is horrible but I think the right decision, I raced the infamous horror year of Mayhem 2012 and the damage to the site was unreal.

If anyone reading this is owed a refund please be gentle in chasing Si and co, they're not out to rip people off, they're a small team with a huge amount of grim work to do I'm sure they'll untangle everything, it just may take some time.

Yeah, we've had some amount rain locally the last few days - sensible decision. Knowing what Eastnor are like I'd imagine Si didn't have much say in the matter.

Awww shit. Feel really bad for the organisers. Go easy on them as they will be having a terrible time and will have lost a lot of money.

Too right. We'd decided not to go anyway because the weather's been so crap (and a cold, wet and muddy me is an even less pleasant person to be around than usual). On the plus side Crankworx coverage starts this afternoon and it's forecast to be ok up here this weekend so we might get a ride out after all, silver lining and all that, what.

I'd hope they'd have some level of insurance.

Not sure about the trade stand people who've already turned up there.

Definitely a shitter though, though it's not like this venue hasn't got a reputation for mud carnage.

Eeeesh, now I'm suffering flashbacks. I didn't do an event for five years after that.

I was there for the 2012 Mountain Mayhem and know Si has made the right decision. An event there this weekend would have destroyed the place and probably meant no bike events on the site ever afterwards.

It was almost comically horrendous

I was there in '12 too, the place is a total swamp in the rain, it's at the bottom of a valley!

I'd imagine the after effects of that event where AFAIK the Eastnor Estate tried to bill MM organisers for something like £30-50k to pay for the 'damages' which unsurprisingly they got nowhere with, would have had a big part in the decision to pull the plug on this weekend.

Our daughter traveled down last night to be one of the helpers, part of her putting back into biking community, driving conditions were bad getting down and petrol stations were closed due to the amount of standing water just after midnight. Her main concern was getting stuck with the van as the ground was saturated.
Probably the right decision by the organizers.

Gutted for them, but definitely sounds like the right decision.

I also was there for the last Eastnor Mudmageddon Mayhem. It was comically hard to walk/wade through the mud in the arena, the course/everywhere was trashed and vehicles were towed in and out. We actually had a good race and got a podium, but only because we were on singlespeeds and they were marginally faster to push uphill in the mud than a geared bike. The push/ride ratio wasn't good.

Yup. Brave but correct call. Another one here who is still scarred after the mire of 2012

From the video I saw of the site it just looked like a bare field with no trackway, additional drainage or anything else there to stabilise the ground, which for an event of that size held in the UK seems a bit, well, naive for want of a a better term.

Absolutely gutted... raced there back in the days of dusty trails and equally in the days of mayhem and right decision! Fair play as previous events bottled it when having to make that decision!! Will be there next year for sure, was so looking forward to this one!

Can't imagine what a blow that must be to have to cancel a big event like that, insurance or not.
We (76 Projects) we due to have a stand there, despite a small amount of hassle for us I'm glad the call was made as it would have been hell.

On a similar note, it is Download Festival at Donington Park this weekend. Google the scenes from there before it has even started. Mudfest now, a day before it starts.
Do you reckon anyone will get drunk, fall over, and be lost for ever in the mud?

That would be a fairly metal way to go in fairness.

Oh 2012. The year I retired from 24 hour racing: https://pickled-hedgehog.com/?p=2694

I feel for Si and the team but - I think - Eastnor refused to host any more MM after 2012. Even years later you could still see the scars in the hillside. It’s absolutely horrible here (I’m 10 miles away), even the stuff we ride in winter is properly unpleasant.

Really feel for them, that is a big call, but totally understandable. I bet Eastnor leaned on them a bit, they have a full summer of events lined up (we're going to Lakefest there in August for example) and they won't want the place trashed from one event.

Another locally-living muddy mayhem alumni here and the right decision. It's a shame as the geology of the area is that less than a mile away is good draining mix of granite/sand...but that's on the AONB hills themselves so you'd never get permission for an event there.

Given the biblical storms that hit Malvern yesterday it certainly was the right move. It was traditional weather for the three counties show though.
