Hi chaps,

What are the trails in Malaga like? We're looking at winter sun holidays, and Malaga looks like a good place to get away.

Has anyone been away with Switchbacks or similar, who can comment on what type of trails and riding there is?

Cheers

Ricks

I haven't been to Malaga but have just booked to go Morzine with RoostDH and saw on their website they also do a Malaga one.

My dealings with RoostDH so far have been really good and I am using them after a recommendation from people I know who used them last year in Morzine.

Have been in January before. Used strava and some tips from somone who had been before to find the trails. Didnt uplift just drove to the bottom of each hill.

Mostly its standard woodland riding. Roots and rocks etc.. But the ground is dust.

There were a few trails we did in the hills behind Benalmadena that were much more open and they were mostly sand.

There was everything from fast open to steep and techy.

Lots of straight up for a couple hours then back down awesome long descents.

We rode from the villa in Mijas one day straight upto to radar ball at the top of the hill behind. Think strava had that at just over 800m climing in one hit

ridden Sierra de Mijas hills, between Alhaurin and Benalmadena. amazing trails. full on tech, steep rocky & dusty!! was surprised how green and lush it is in places out there too. done uplifts with Switchbacks, done self drive to mijas and pedalled up laps of Sram track area, and used the gondola from Benalmadna too.

I've been with Switchbacks, once to Malaga (Benalmadna, Mijas, etc)  and once to Bubion.

I prefered Bubion, which surprised me as I'm not generally very fit and hate climbing, and enjoy sessioning the odd bit until I get it right, but 100% uplift left me craving a nice singletrack climb. In an ideal world I'd probably enjoy Bubion with a couple more uplifts.

Whilst the Malaga trails can be ridden on a trail bike and roll everything, I think the people having most fun were the DH bikes and people who could jump everything.

If I had a week off in January I'd go back though, it beats a muddy schlepp round a trail center any day!
