So giving my winter a bike a much needed service, looks like I have sticky pistons in the rear hope mini. Piston pushes out okay but one piston doesn't,t retract very smoothly so has caused uneven pad wear. With a little bit of pressure I can reset with a screw driver.
Best way to fix? Can I put a little brake fluid or grease round then edges of the sticky piston and the push back into the caliper with a screw driver? I know replacing the seals and everything is the ideal way to go but I,d like to ride the bike in a couple of hours rather than wait for the postie....
Obviously removing the piston is the best way to service it, but time consuming...
Put some DOT fluid on the piston and cycle it a few times to lubricate the seal.. Use the same DOT you use in the brake.
Silicone grease or oil, get it from a plumbers suppliers, it's a lubricant and not corrosive like DOT fluids, so a much better option.

I had what I thought was a sticky piston and lubed them with silicon spray
this made the pistons so slippy the would not retract with the seal and just pumped out making the brakes stick on
new seals the only good fix
Castrol Red Rubber grease is another one that will work well
Pads out, hold one piston in the retracted position with a tyre lever, and pump the other piston out as far as you dare without it popping out. Then use a cotton bud with degreaser to clean round the piston. Lube as suggested above, repeat other side.
Kept mine going until I had the time for a proper strip and rebuild.

Use plastic tyre lever.
