Love my Whyte T130RS but after 3 hard days riding the Lakes I've conceded the Fox 34 forks need some attention.
Could be that they need a service (had bike since Aug 17) but they are nowhere near as plush as Pikes that several others are running.
Little small bump sensitivity but better on bigger hits. Several owners of same bikes have changed the air shaft and elongated them to either 140 or 150mm at the same time.
I'm not spending a grand of new forks but what can I do to make them feel 'nicer'?
Yours probably are not Evol forks, so worth seeing if they are, and if not can you change the airspring?
Whyte made a right balls up with the suspension spec on the 2017 RS. I can only presume they didn't test ride them or got a deal from Fox they couldn't refuse.
If you can afford Pikes, just get pikes.
If I was to go for Pikes, which are the best ones? RTC Solo or Debonair? Is confused by all the options...
Want to go from 130 to 140 if not 150, boost, 27.5...any deals around? TIA
First off remove the lowers and then remove the airshaft, then check there's not an excessive amount of grease on the air shaft (which is reducing negative chamber volume). If it's non-EVOL you can upgrade to the EVOL shaft to increase negative volume. Also switch to a lighter weight oil in the lowers (such as Fox Green 10wt or Maxima Plush MX 10wt) - I found an improvement switching away from Fox Gold plus you could also increase oil volumes in the lowers by around 50%. Also grease the wiper seals with Slick Honey before re-fitting them on to the stanchions. All of these have had good results for me with 32's, 34's and 36's.
Cheers Strike - I think this is beyond my spannering capabilities - sounds good in theory though. If it was going to produce a noticeably better result and the sums stack up I'll see if my local to-go mechanic could do it...
That sounds like a standard air shaft change but choosing a different oil than standard to refil the lowers? It’s really not hard...
Vorsrung Luftkappe is now available for Fox forks.
Forks are probably due a service now anyway. Send them off to TFTuned for a service and get the Luftkappe fitted while they're at it. job done.
Go for 2018 pikes as they were the first to have the charger 2 damper.
Last time i looked bikediscount.de had some for about £600 in various travel options.
Dos anyone have first hand experience of before and after Luftkappe with same forks as rascal has?
I've got the 29er versions on my T129, initial impressions were ok but needed 3 tokens for mid stroke support but meant they were harsh on small bumps. Was all set on a set of pikes but thought I'd try the luftkappe piston first. Feel so much better now and that's with no tokens in, great small bump sensitivity without blowing through the travel. The GRIP dampers pretty good as well, almost on par with the charger and much better than motion control. I fitted it myself but you could get tf tuned to fit as part if a service, maybe extend the travel to 140mm as well
Duke - that's interesting, may indeed go for the luftkappe myself.
Thanks - Luftkappe sounds like a good viable option...will look into it.
Seen Pikes for £500 - 2018 RCT3 Debonair - service current Fox @ £200 or buy these?? Arrrggghhhhhhh!!!!
Pikes if you can afford it, £500 is cheap AF.
I wonder how much you could get for the 34s?..
BTW - where have you seen the Pikes?
Biketart.
Did you take the Pike plunge?
