You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Odd things you discover eh?
I serviced my race bike last night, for the first time adding two tokens to the standard two tokens in Fox ‘32 SC…. Only to find there was only one installed at the factory 🤷♂️
Then randomly I decided to weigh my bikes:
a) XC race FS - 22lb
b) Play bike - 33lb 😳
c) Road bike - 19.5lb
All with cages, pedals and wahoo mounts.
I know I’ve been off colour this year, but racing a 22lb XC bike and coming last really is embarrassing!
using pounds in 2023
What is wrong with the great British pound?
At least 2 people today will finish last in an Xc race on a sub 10kg bike, probably with pedals on too

Most people don’t use them any more.
We have tools to make great American units comprehensible. Still get inches, but only for tyre widths - it's a fatbike thing.
I hate it when bike weights are quoted in Kg, since I then need to use a calculator to work out what that translates to in my world.
i use Kg in just about everything else in life, but sorry, bike weights should be in pounds.

Wait till you hear about his 29" wheels and what frame size...
It's weird, I am pretty relaxed about units of measuring and happily use both at work and home, but when it comes to bikes, kg doesn't mean anything. I weigh myself in kg but for some reason bikes and lbs seems locked into my tiny noggin.
33lbs? That's an XC bike 🙂
Pounds for bikes, kilo for people. That's the lore/law round here!
My Giga is about 37lbs I think, even my hardtail weighs the same as your play bike. Honestly don't think it makes any difference unless - like you - you're racing. I really wouldn't want to ride a 22lb race bike - must be twitchy as **** 🙂
Lbs for complete bikes. Grams/kg for the components that make it.
1100g tyres, a 650g post, 110g stem, 525g cranks, 2.1kg forks bolt to a 2.3kg frame to build a 28 lbs bike.
Obvious really.
Is it only me who read the title and thought Mrs K57 had given you the boot?
must be twitchy as ****
Not really, it’s a Spark RC but it does feel flighty after the riding the other one which is an Occam H20. It’s all a bit Jack Russell / Labrador.
Just spent 4hrs on the Occam, Very tired now. It’s great when it gets rolling but short sharp bursts are hard work. I did intend the ride the Spark today to get a feel for the new fork setup, but preferred the Occam when I woke up. Train heavy, race light so they say…
I've never weighed my Enduro, I just assume "small moon" and get on with my life.
Did you enjoy the races?
First or last, if you enjoy it, crack on.
Not sure if it's more embarrassing than thinking a 10kg bike should make you fast 😉
I have been winching a 15.5kg Reactor up Welsh hills for a while, then on holiday I rode a 12kg race hardtail on flat Singletrack. Felt like an absolute rocket!

You are, I can assure you 😂

Sorry but bike weights should always be quoted in whatever unit makes them sound lighter.

More like it’s not an excuse for going so slow was my point.
I was naive to the fact “trail” bikes were so heavy now but I guess bigger wheels, forks and tyres contribute. When I bought the Occam I read several reviews becuase I thought I’d bought a pup with the Alu version, only to see it described as “reasonably light”. Anyway I’m not complaining, I love the bike.

I turned a corner this year once I realised I was unable to perform and once I’d accepted that yes, I did and it was good to be in the environment still. Things are improving by bit and carefully training is increasing, with one eye on the post viral / long Covid fatigue which was the main issue.
Anyway…. Back to maintenance oddities….
FWIW my Occam is 13.6kg (just under 30lbs). That's the carbon 650B version. 2x11, Fox 34s, original DT Swiss wheels and Bontrager XR4s.
