You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
When I got my Calibre Dune in May, I decided that I'd ride it for 1,000 KM then give it bit of a service. I'd not realised, but with yesterdays evening ride home, I've hit 1,032.1 km on it since May 7th. So time to show it a bit of love, with a strip and clean.
I've never had a bike with disk brakes before, can anyone point me to a decent servicing and maintenance guide so I can at least have a slight clue of what to do? For clarity, I have no idea how to get the pads out for inspection etc. :dunce:
They're Tektro Novela brakes, from that I can gather and I've found a PDF, but it's pretty scant on detail.
take a look at the park tool website. good guides on most stuff there.
You have to keep screwing one pad in further, as the pads wear, one pad is static and the other bends the disc to push it onto the static pad.
And when they both get worn, you have to screw both in to maintain a close distance between the pads and calipers.
When they are perfectly adjusted they work really well, but i upgraded from mechanical to hydraulic because I got sick of adjusting them to keep good bite.
If there is still plenty of pad material on them and they're working fine I'd leave them alone. You wouldn't think that after 1000km with calliper brakes you'll do some maintenance for the sake of it. They're pretty simple devices so not much to maintain so long as the pads are still good and well adjusted.
i [s]upgraded[/s] changed from mechanical to hydraulic because I [s]got sick of adjusting them to keep good bite[/s] switched one set of problems for another.
FIFY
though apparently the forum no long accepts strike through. sigh.
oh! no - it does, it's just that preview does not preview it. sigh.
Apparently it does as long as it's in a quote hahah 🙂
😀
I have the same issue, having to edit posts to remove the crap.
A bit like the cross the owners of mechanical disk brakes have to bare.
I always forget about the Park Tools website, thanks for the reminder!
