Looking for a Spanish resort on the coast which is good for cycling and has good road bike hire available. Somewhere where I can cycle in the morning and chill on the beach in the afternoon. I've stayed in Salou and although not the nicest of resorts once out of the town the mountains where fab for riding. Only problem was there wasn't any cycle hire available so had to take own bike, which isn't an option at the moment. Any recommendations?
Javea/Xabia, or anywhere in that area (above Benidorm anyway 😉 ) is great for road riding and the beaches are lovely. Lot of the pro teams head to that area for winter training IIRC.
What sort of riding are you looking to do? I live 40 mins south of Salou but could be in a different world, can probably find you a bike to hire locally. Plenty of great beaches but not the resorts that Thomsons etc go to. When are you planning the trip?
Costa Blanca area is great for winter/spring riding though it could be a bit hot in summer I guess.
I'll recommend Meta Bike Cafe in Albir for bike hire as they sorted us out.
Probably not quite what you were thinking, but maybe San Sebastián. Not really a typical "Spanish resort" but the cycling of all denominations is excellent. Bike hire (Orbea Orcas) via Kili: http://basquecountrycycling.com/bike-rent-14
Just back from Calpe (Costa Blanca: just down from Xabia etc)- allowed one day on the bike: hired a Carbon 105 equipped Orbea from solybike.com and had one of the greatest days on a road bike I've ever had. Highly recommended. https://www.strava.com/activities/594354930
Costa brava. Flights to girona or Barcelona, beautiful small Spanish coastal villages such as llafranc, calella de palafrugell, tamariu, sa tuna...etc. Riding good enough for lots of the top road guys to live and train there.
Stunning area.
