[Closed] Magura Menja Service - any ideas

Hello

I have a pair of Menja forks that I think are from 08 - the problem is that the travel seems to get easier the further through it you get rather than harder, which is causing me crashes & lack of confidence when going down steep stuff or a drop.

I have seen other posts on how to give them a service - but wondered if any one has any ideas on why this could be before I spend two hours trying to service them!

Thanks
Adam

A friend of mine had exactly the same prob on his. He sent them to Magura UK, and they put something in on top of the air piston to reduce the volume.

I've sent forks to them this year. Excellent service.

The early ones had a shorter piston, giving a more linear stroke. Later ones , '08 onward had a taller piston, ramping up the pressure towards the end of the stroke. You can achieve the same by putting up to 23cc of Fox Fluid or similar in the air chamber.

Just doing a first service on my '09 Menja's (!). They look fine from what I can tell, but I'll be adding some fluid to the air chamber to make them a touch more progressive.

One query - when I unscrewed the bolt at the bottom of the right leg (hollow rebound adjuster one) I think I ended up turning the rebound some way. How on earth do I find out where in the adjustment range it is?

I tried putting fluid on top of the piston on my Durins for the same reason.. It eventually makes it's way down past the piston.. The 5ml you're supposed to put in for lubrication always disappears anyway!
I think on my mate's it was a plastic or foam block that they'd put in there.

edit.. and you'll have to start again with the rebound adjustment. afaik, there's not even click stops on the older ones.

There are click stops on the older ones, but they "click" due to two small balls being forced into the corners of a hexagon by a spring. When DIY serviced, they fall out and roll under the boiler/ washing machine/workbench.
Contact Dave at Magura sevice UK, on 07773453681. He's very helpful.
The plastic block may be similar to Fox's air chamber tuning blocks.

Lube service done. Pretty easy really. Took a bit of effort to get the hex-heads aligned with the lowers, and th air side was a tight fit, but got there in the end.

Added the advised 5ml to the air side to make it more progressive, but not sure its done much.

Just out of curiosity, what pressures are people running compared to what the manual says? I'm running about 5bar, but thinking of upping a touch to stop them blowing through their travel so easy.
