Used them that for the first time ever, quite unorthodox setting granted, Tern GSD ebike with me and 2 kids on, the stopping power and feel was immense!
Anyone seen any offers on them!

They're great aren't they.. Made me realise how bad my shimanos are when I fitted them to my partner's bikes. I want some now.

Merlin have some deals atm I think. Even more of you've got a loyalty discount with them.

The trail sport set is great value.

Worth pointing out that the magura rotors are thicker than standard. So get magura rotors too.

They beat the SRAM ones on both my other bikes, these weren't even bedded in and had the bigger levers but felt immense

Is that on Merlin? Can only see the brakes for 92 without rotors

Got a 'Shagura' MT5 setup on the full suss and gotta say once you're used to the biteyness off them they're mint.

Just out of curiosity, which ones would I buy to replace the 4 pot XTs on my Occam?

Having dreamed of an XT equipped bike for well over three decades, now that I have one I'm pretty unimpressed.

What magura brake is light as possible but capable enough to slow 110kgs of all-up weight down the side of Helvellyn etc?

Mt5s or mt7s.
You get better 1 finger lever blades on the 7s, but upgraded lever blades can be fitted to the 5s. Lots of shapes available so you can get them perfect for you.

Remember to get magura rotors too as they are significantly thicker. Shimano rotors when new are at the replacement thickness for maguras.

Which magura rotors? And having not checked yet, do they do 200mm? Thinking I'm needing to replace my SRAM rotors and I reckon a thicker rotor will aid heat dissipation...and also help reduce lever throw.

Storm HC are fine. There are fancier ones too but the basic rotor works just fine.

203 I think. You could shim your calipers out with 1.5mm washers.

@DickBarton SRAM do thicker rotors now too (HS2). I don't think it will affect the lever throw though - the pads will still 'settle' the same distance from the rotor.

The 220mm Centerline rotors are thicker than the other sizes - 2mm thick I believe.

The HS2 (new and more expensive) rotors are also 2mm thick I believe. I’m not sure it’s a game changer but they claim a % more stopping power and heat dissipation benefit.

Magura say you should use their rotors due to them being 2mm
Shimano are 1.8 and they newer sram are 2mm
I’ve used the Storm rotors from Magura and they’re ok
But the MDR-P are superb but can’t find a 203 Centrelock anywhere
I’ve also went the Shigura as the magura levers are poor
Plastic composite of whatever and Shimano are alloy
If you can find the Fabio wibmer edition MT5 they have the one finger lever that come on the MT7

I loved my MT5s until they needed bleeding, just couldn't get them to work properly afterwards. Would be great then half way through the first ride afterwards the lever would pull to the bars.

Sure that isn't just air in the system? I'm saying 'just' but brakes aren't that simple to bleed these days, so isn't always easy to get rid of it all without some patience and a certain knack...

Keep your XT levers to use with the Magura calipers. The best of both, comfortable levers, easy bleeding, light lever action and massive power. The shigura setup really works well

I’m seeing this on my MT7s. Nightmare. Had both ends solid for 3 rides. Great power and control. Middle of the 4th, back went spongy. Front followed a ride later. Just bled again - about 5 times. Hoping that’s them but not liking this.

Surely trapped air would be evident from first ride?

The levers can trap air. Do a bleed as per instructions then lay the bike on it's side, end of the lever pointing up and tap it a bit. Then do a shimano style lever bleed with the syringe open with some fluid in and flick the lever. The last bit of air should come out.

That'll be the Shimano end of the equation...
Why?

I’ve got MT5s and so love them. On the second rear rotor now and have bled the rear without any significant issues… using the correct fittings and Magyar instructions.
I actually prefer the levers (I run the 2 finger levers inboard and find shimano too skinny now.
