Just wondering about these lights, many great reviews and they would seem to fit well for my usage.

But despite the great reviews there are many comments about faulty cables, batteries shorting out and poor customer service, seems to be a great but not great product which is odd..

Any long term user experience on here..

Cheers

I've had a 8000s for about a year or so and it's worked faultlessly

Their new 12000 model has different cables, possibly with silicone insulation which seems better and more flexible. I don't know what the 6500 and 8000 cables are like nowadays, whether they've changed them up or not.

I'm still running a 6500 but I'm just super gentle with the cables now, mine is on its fifth winter of use after a few issues. I warrantied the battery cable after 9 months, then had to warranty the light as the connected cable failed after about 21 months. I've since had the battery cable fail after a further 18 months so I bought a new one which was fairly inexpensive, and I cut out the failed section of cable and re-soldered the connector back on as a spare.

The inner cable insulation fractures and causes it to short circuit triggering the battery protection to kick in - you reset by removing the offending cable and plugging the charger into the battery.

I run an exposure helmet light as well so I'm not too worried about being plunged into darkness if the cables failed

Thanks for that, that is consistant with what ive read elsewhere, im using a hope r4 which is 11 years old and has been faultless, but struggling with other riders behind me with better lights causing a big shadow in front of me.

Maybe i should stretch to an exposure 6 pack..bloody pricey though...

Thanks again

@wibble89 I'd be interested to know how you store your lights? Are they kept indoors or in a shed/garage?

Just wondering if cold gets to them or if not, I'll expect a failure sooner rather than later.

I keep mine in the kitchen so fairly warm.

I also store mine in the kitchen, so fairly warm - fingers crossed neither of us should have any issues. My main thing is to not fold the cables, I now roll them up in a wide curve rather than in a tight bundle. When on the bike I wrap the cables with a spiral around the top tube to get from the battery to the headtube, then the rest of the spare wire wound loosely around the steerer below the stem

Had mine for a few years, faultless, nice and bright. USB C means you can charge them pretty quickly.

If I had to complain... The light gets very hot, but I can't think of a tangible problem with that, unless you're determined to handle it when it's been on a long time.

The connection to the battery is a bit tight, it's never popped out, but it feels like it might, so not an issue really.
