You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've got the Standard Snakeskin Trailstar 29 on order for the front...should I of gone for the SG carcuss? I'm not hitting rocks on a regular basis. Will I need a track pump, compressor, petrol and match a la Top Gear or similar?
Will I need a tube for the first ride?
SG = heavy, normal Snakeskin Trailstar fine for my 15st bulk on everything.
I tend to lay my tyres out for a day or two to get their shape, then pop them up with a track pump. normally no problems on light bike normal and wide beadless.
If they do resist I just pop a tube in, have a cuppa and then ease it out gently and then they go up easy.
Forgot to mention there was something about Schwalbe tyres and the Flow Ex/Arch EX.... they are not great together and if you pump the tyre up too far to try and seat it on the rim it may blow off, this kills the tyre bead.
Something like that, I am sure there'll be people along to confirm or condemn as heresy.
Cheers..going on stock Enduro rims. My track pump has stopped working so was hoping they'd go up with pack pump. I'll h
Invest in another track pump then..Halfords?
I've put up both snakeskin and SG Magic Mary on my FlowEX rims.
The SG ones were a bit easier than the Tubeless Ready - but both went up with a track pump and only 2 or 3 minutes head scratching.
The SG went up like they had tubes in. The Snakeskin I had to put a tube in, inflate until the bead seated then took the tube out one side, leaving the other bead still seated. It inflated fine after this.
SG is a heavy beast - it was a Vertstar / SG I fitted and it was a confidence-inspiring tyre - weighed 1bout 1.2kg though 😯
Newer Schwalbe are "Tubeless Easy" which is meant to be easier to inflate. I've not tried one yet.
Snakeskin went up very easily for me on a couple of rims- super tight on my fulcrums though, they held air but needed stupid pressures and an overnight wait before they went properly onto the bead.
I've just fitted a MM on Flows. Had to use a tube first to get it seated in one side then it was a piece of piss with the track pump.
I have one on a mavic 821 and it went up tubeless easily first try. Its an amazing front tyre. Even seems happy to be run as low as 10psi which I found out by letting out too much air on my first ride.
Schwalbe's went up nicely on my Flow EXs with a brisk thrashing of the track pump.
I'd be very very impressed if you could inflate it tubeless first time around with a pack pump. You'd have to have a strong right arm.
Doesn't sound like you need a SG casing at all.
So if it goes up first time with a pack pump proving I have a strong right arm promise you won't call me names..
Well maybe not, but if you claim other wise you're obviously a liar 😉
They definitely go on easier if you put some washing up liwuid on the bead first. Also massage the bead onto the rim before inflating.
Once on mine went up with a track pump and the front stayed up with no sealant.
Super grippy tyre but pretty draggy! I have them front and rear on my AM/DH rims.
Easily with a hand pump. The harder bit is getting them off again!
