I'm after a new waterproof jacket and like the look of the Madisons but I can't decide between the Zenith and the Roam. Experiences of either would be great, as would suggestions for alternatives. Budget is £60ish.
I had a roam,quite a boxy fit tbh
I tried a M Roam on today and it was a little snug under my arms, but OK apart from that, I'm actually pleased it didn't fit as a bit of googling has found it for nearly half price!
How did it perform as a waterproof?
It wasn't bad, not great, no major criticisms. There's a quechua waterproof in decathlon for 60 quid that's far better.
The Roam's designed as a 'wouldn't look silly down the pub' riding/commuting jacket, the Zenith is a much more technical beast designed for proper riding in proper crappy weather.
Like you, the Roam gave me armpit wedgies so I got the Zenith, Its fine for wearing in a public place but no hand pockets (has chest pockets). The underarm zip is useful too. It works well as a waterproof on the bike - no leakage through the fabric or neck/ cuffs.
I have the Roam. It is waterproof but could really do with pit vents. I overheat really quickly when wearing it so don’t really use it for cycling anymore, unless it is freezing.

The second one you link to is the newer version, bloody good jackets.
My worry about that Quechua is that it doesn't have a dropped back, is it long enough that you don't end up funnelling water down your crack when riding leaning forward?
That said, proper waterproof *and* stretch fabric, I might just get one as a casual waterproof!
The second one does.
I have the old version, it's long enough that I've never noticed it not having a drop.
As nobeer has said
The Decathlon one is a belter of a jacket
In my view it’s way better than the Zenith
I own both and I think the Zenith is more a summer kinda waterproof jacket
Sizing is small Im M in most stuff but L is neat on me in Madison
The decathlon is heavier but more robust and waterproof and I have the older version
The newer one is 15,000 instead of the 10,000 the old one is
But for £60 it’s a bargain
It’s as good as jackets double or triple the price
