I was riding round macc forest last night and didnt find anything closed, but I'm not entirely sure what the macc forest classic loop is that you refer to. If you can be more specific about the actual route I can probably help out - I ride in that area a lot.

All open. All dusty and loose 🙂
Lots of variations you could do, but maybe you'd just rather stick to what you know.

There are downhill tracks through the forest which are running amazingly at the moment.

Easiest ones to find just off-route are from the lookout bench on Nessit Hill.

Thanks folks, done a bit of exploring around there but left it all alone for a while after it last kicked off. Takes me a couple of hours drive but love the area so will check out the aforementioned cheers

Surely you must be passing through better areas to ride than Macc Forest if you're travelling a couple of hours???

Yeah, its a decent loop and there are loads of options in the trees or just over in the Goyt etc.. but as a local I can't see the attraction of driving a couple of hours to ride here

bingo ! its fine if you live near by - great to have on the doorstep, but there must be better options if you live 2 hours away

Well yeah, there’s the whole of the Peak District but ya kinda gotta rotate around otherwise you see all the same stuff. My mate comes from Boston so add another 1+ hours into his journey.

I went to ride White Rabbit a couple of weeks ago and got utterly confused trying to find the entrance. Then it dawned on me that all the trees have been felled. Felt weird riding it with no trees as cover. Like riding naked or something.

I live on the road up to the forest and really enjoy the riding. Just a nice little loop with a few hidden treats that can be extended on a whim if you fancy. I’m in utterly shocking shape at the moment after double long Covid otherwise I’d offer to ride with you.

Okay I get your point, maybe it's because I'm local, but I don't see the value in riding there against a 2hour plus drive.

I rode there the other Wednesday night, 15 mins from the front door and didn't get past The Stanley Arms. I clocked up 37km, with 1200m of elevation and only briefly touched on the "Classic Macc Forest Loop", I didn't even session anything off Nessit. Everything was running sweet, it was pretty quiet in the Forest, in a few places it was hard to recall where the original trails went due to the felling and number of new trails built. But, you'd not get away with riding 99% of the route at a weekend that's for sure as it's too busy with walkers etc...
