I can email you a strava link of a 12.5 mile route from the leather smithy if that's any use? Are you all riding the route or just you. Obv depending on skill level but it may be a bit much for a youngster.

Email in profile.

Leathers Smithy post code: SK11 0NE and website: http://www.leatherssmithy.com/

Any 'legal' riding will be using the tracks in the 'Grit & Gears 2' route: http://www.discovercheshire.co.uk/DCE_Images/Sites/Region1/PDF/routepacks//Grit_and_Gears_II.pdf

Might be a bit hilly for a 10yo (depending on your 10yo)

There's climbing and there's climbing and then there's the incline from the leather smithy to charity lane. Please come back and let us know how your son and wife get on. :oD

I know what your saying I wasn't hoping to do leather smithy to charity lane. Surely there's some sort of family friendly route? No?

I can't really say without knowing how good your family is. That route linked above starts at teggs nose and drops down to join the climb to charity lane all on tarmac, it's pretty steep but doable, it is harder to do from the leather smithy. If you want to miss out that climb altogether you could start from the leather smithy and just head along the road past the res which clibs to come over a hill and will meet that route again at the chapel. You've then got a long road slog up to the cat n fiddle, some serious lorries go along that top road so almost as soon as you get on the top road there is a cafe, turn left into the cafe carpark and immediately right onto an off road incline which comes out at the cat n fiddle. A bit further on is cumberland clough, pretty gnar in places so again watch you little un. All in that would be a pretty long day out for a 10 yr old. If you're just after a couple of hours of nice easy cycle without any gnar then I would suggest park at the leather smithy, head along the road by the res, over the hill and turn right and off road through a gate and cycle through the forest on that side up to the view point and then back down the other side. Might be a bit short though.
Have a good time!

As above comments, Macc forest isn't the greatest spot for a family ride. It's very hilly and those hills are very steep. It's one of my local spots but there are better places for a family ride.

Cannock tomorrow with rkid whatever the weather,Carlos very kindly sent me a nice route for macc forest that will have to wait for nxt weekend now!
As for the wheel after much head scratching and faffing it's going to have to go back to lbs when it's open (tues) I tried 3 different 9 speed cassettes and the hope hub won't take any!
The qr adapter won't let the lock ring to tighten down enough to sucre the cassette properly. I'm puzzled tbh unless I need a spacer behind the cassette???

So no riding today but will make up for it tomorrow!
