What's the big difference between the two, looking for something to replace the ever depressing guide rs's on my bike and thinking of going xt as per the other bike, but seeing the SLX available for a bit less, and looking pretty similar, is there any need to go for the XT?

XT had lever dimples too.

Found the free stroke adjustment to be ineffective on my old XT M785 brakes.

I have some crash damaged levers to replace, I think I'll just go with SLX as I can live without dimples.

In my experience, the Guide RS is a far superior brake to the SLX and XT (unless they are buggered :)).

I must admit though, I am comparing them to M785 which might as well have been lumps of wood!

I'm impressed with the newer versions of the Deore on my wife's bike. I've got some of the Shimano 4 pots to go on this week to, so looking forward to seeing what improvements they have made.

Bleed with the free stroke screw wound out, then winding it in makes a difference.

mt501 4 pot for £120ish a set will beat either. I used to have xt on all bikes and have gone to these. more modulation is the notable thing and it makes a huge difference.

Them's the ones I got @steveh

Just waiting for some mineral oil, so I can route and chop the rear. Oh and don't forget that if you buy them from Europe, you'll have to swap the levers around (I nearly forgot!).

Ironically, they are replacing some decent Guide RS (rear hose way too short and I fancied trying these).

I've moved from M8000 to Deore 4 pot, main reason was the annoying variable bit point/pumping issue on the XT's.
Happy so far, better modulation and no bite point issue, only thing I miss is the bling factor of the XT levers they looked so much nicer!

Another option I saw after moving to Deore was XT levers + Magura calipers, if you search for 'Shigura' in youtube you'll find more info.
