fitted new m540s, the only way to unclip is to turn heel inwards - the opposite to what I'm used to with my only other set of clip ins and opposite to the instructions!

Came with cleats but havent changed them as the ones I've had in for last 6 months are fine. I'll change to the new cleats as last resort (although Im getting used to turning heel inwards and it does feel 'right'!) but just wondering if I'm missing something really obvious thats making me do the opposite to what I'm used to - pushing in as opposed to out?

Pretty sure there's no left and right cleat....even if there is they've worked 'properly' for last 6 months having to push heel outwards to unclip.

Pedals on correct side!

Am I missing something really obvious!?

Cleats could be worn, but release direction is down to the cleats not the pedal (they come in multi-release and single release flavours). wind the tension off the pedals a bit?

work normally on other pedals but they're a different make so could that be why? If I keep them as they are would there be any damage to pedals if turning in to unclip all the time.

So if I swap existing cleats around on shoes they should work normally?

Thanks

Some "Shimano Like" cleats work better than others, Wellgo seem OK but Ritchie are always a bit sticky. The cleat should wear before the pedal, so as long as you don't mind un-clipping inwards it's won't be the end of the world.

Personally? New pedals, new cleats...but I'm picky

swapping them won't make any difference on Shimano cleats
