You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Had a click sound whilst pedaling which I think I have narrowed down to coming from the pedal.
Removed the pedal and the spindle has play/is loose within the pedal body.
Is it goosed or can I service it etc etc
Thanks for any help
I run these pedals - when the play gets bad I just bin them and buy another set for £25 or so online. Never had one come off the axle but don't want to risk it. If you disassemble them you can service the bearings but they still have play in them unless you replace parts which just isn't worth the hassle when you can get another set so cheaply.
Easy to service with the (rare) tool.
Thanks gee
Would the rare tool be the plastic thingy mi bob ? as if so the 540's dont need it I dont think
Or is it an even rarer tool ? 😉
It doesn't need the plastic tool thing - I've had them apart without. Seriously, just get a new set. If you think the cleats these days are £15 and you can get a set of new 540s including cleats for £30 that's £15 for pedals. Bargain.
what side is clicking? i have a new [s]left [/s] right hand one in the shed i won't use. you can have it for the postage. (edit) its a 520 if thats any use?
No rare tools needed. You can tension the bearings with an 8mm and a 6mm spanner IIRC.
Thanks tumnurkoz but its the non drive side. Will have a pull apart and see if I can extract some more life, if not as said will get some new ones.
Cheers
520s have a different axles from the 540s. 520s also have plastic splined collars rather than alu ones on 540s.
