A cyclist has been branded a "dummy" by police for riding on the hard shoulder of the M1 in Hertfordshire.

It's hard to believe some people are that dum

Have you seen the photo?

I don't think I've ever seen a cycle lane down the side of a main road that's that wide and well maintained. 😉

We're allowed on dual carriageways which don't have a hard shoulder but do have a 70mph limit. Riding on one of those wouldn't arouse any criticism.

Unless it's dark, you're dressed in black carrying a less-than-helpful set of lights. See the "I Nealry Killed a Cyclist Thread" for details.

Spotted someone doing this a few weeks ago, somewhere around J18 on the M1. He was riding a BSO and pedalling like fury.

@jonellison

True but riding on any road dressed in black carrying a less-than-helpful set of lights is significantly less than clever.
