I have a 170mm 2016 lyrik....
My fork does not rebound 100%. When the bike is on the wheels it may stop 1cm short of full extension (weight of carbon bars and bike only). When it is upside down with the wheel off the fork stops 0.5cm short. I must pull the fork to get full extension.
Does anybody have experience with this issue?
This is my first air shock, so I'm not sure what's normal..I came from the tank destroyer marz 55ti...
How old?
(lol as per the other thread on gears first stop if new is back to shop)
service?
seals?
Lube?
Air pressure?
My Pike does something very similar, not quite as much as 1cm though (more like 5mm). Figured it's got something to do with the dimple for the -ve spring closing up slightly early, doesn't seem to do it all the time and does vary a bit
New fork...I've ridden it like 6 times and I noticed on the 3rd or 4th ride...
I just got a response from the shop and they said I should try releasing all the pressure then compressing and refilling...
Its likely that the negative and positive are not balancing properly. Try letting all the air out first, then pumping up soft, balancing by going through the travel, then adding more air and repeating, before full pressure. If that doesnt work, its probably grease stuck in the transfer port, this can happen on RS forks - back to the shop then.
had this on a PIKE, it was grease blocking the negative chamber bleed hole.
If they are 2016, send them back as it could be anything from what i mentioned, to metal or plastic swarf, no lube or a knackered damper or airshaft (seen all in Rockshox forks)
Thanks for the input.... Empty, compress ,refill didn't work. I'll try refilling in stages like benpinnick said..
Send fork to SRAM = fLuck it all....
....ehhhhh I hope I didn't make a wrong decision waiting for the new lyrik instead of getting a 36,,,,,,
One thing you could try (Ive never but...) - let all the air out and compress fully to make sure theres no air in there. Pull the forks back up to full travel, pump the forks back up (while extended) to some silly pressure, say 200PSI, then compress. This would create a big differential between positive and negative which might clear the transfer port.
I was going to suggest what benpinnick just suggested.
Its most likley just a block negative air port, so Pump up to 150psi, bounce a couple of times , and then let the air back down to normal levels, that should sort it out.
Had the same on my pikes.
Thanks guys ... I'll give it a go
So.... I tried to extend the fork with zero air then filled to 150psi, bounced some, then dropped to normal pressure...
Upside down, wheel off it still only extends 165mm. I have to pull it for full extension.
Also, there is a strange sound from the air leg when moving in that last 0.5cm region. I don't think it's an air valve sound. It's like lightly sliding a dry hand on a desk...kind of raspy.. (Noticed the sound before experimenting)
My zochhi fork made lots of sound but this fork is mostly silent in all of its stroke...except for this raspy little sound
Am I being paranoid or should a new air fork extend 100% without any weight on it???
No you're not paranoid. I am guessing its sitting around 5% on the sag markings? Thats a warranty issue then.
Yep...about the 5% mark... Appreciate the tips, next step SRAM...
Alllright my bike shop just sent me this:
"I just gave the DSD SRAM guys a call. They told me that the new Lyrik has a negativ spring which is doing the sounds and is giving the fork like a zero breakaway feel. He also told me that the fork has to hover within 5mm of its travel so everything is perfect. ;)"
Sweeet. Good info for future lyrik riders
