My 3 year old original DX/bastid died last night and I am looking for something decent but well priced.
I think I would like a broadish spread of light so I've been looking at these twin set ups which are all well priced.

Do they give a good spread? Will I need a spot as well?
Am I looking at the wrong things and you have better ideas?

Very happy with C&B Seen 1200... to the point where I'll be buying another.

Is it spotty or wide?

Is it spotty or wide?

Kind of a 'highlighted' spot with a useable wider 'halo'. Nice mix from just one lamp.

Certainly two would be great, as you could overlay the two 'highlights' or havethem just next to each other and have a brighter and wider 'halo'

I've just one at the moment, and find it useable for nightriding offroad... However, generally, it's too narrow to use by itself mounted on bars. I will be trying it mounted on my helmet next time, but expect that I'll need one on the bars and one on the helmet.

I doubt this is any different to other lights though.

OP: are you looking to run it as a helmet or bar light? I've just bought a Lumenator for the bars and it's a nice broad & even light spread. I was using it with my Diablo helmet light (which I guess I rely on the most for actually seeing the trail). I reckon it would work pretty well as a helmet light though (no plans to try it myself though). It replaced an MJ 1200 lumen thing, the Lumenator is a more even light, brighter in the highest setting, smaller/lighter (inc. battery) and seems better run time (indicator stayed green for me last night after a couple of hours, I wasn't on full the whole time though as from previous lights I have gotten into the habit of turning things down for climbs etc.).
That said the MJ was good enough, I just fancied a change and something a bit more compact (but still improving the run time).

FuzzyWuzzy:

I dunno I am thinking I need a bar helmet combo.
I know I am dissapoitned with the spotty stuff.
Apparently the MJ-872 is a wide beam?
