I moved to South Shropshire about 5 years ago and have enjoyed exploring Mortimer forest, Bringewood, Hopton and the Long Mynd. Still plenty to discover in and around those places but it's always nice to find new areas to play in.

My eye has been drawn on the Ludlow OS map to a patchwork of Foresty England woods across the border in Herefordshire to the South West of Mortimer forest. Places like Ladyacre plantation, Bircher common and others on either side of the Lugg valley.

Are there any trails worth seeking out over there? I will probably go and have a nosey anyway, but it's always good to get a steer in the right direction if possible.

Not answering your question but are all the carparks open around Bringewood/ Mortimer?
Thinking of heading over the weekend

It's been a long time, but there's a trail that links Bircher Common to Mortimer Forest via the Goggin and that weird octagonal house that's in there. I can't remember the exact route from the map though.

There's every chance that new trails have been put in. Check the Strava heat map. Also Fishpool Valley was a pleasant climb too, that could be worked into a loop.

Popular on Strava is up from Lucton to Yatton Hill and Croft Ambrey, then round the top of Bircher Common then there appears to be some cheeky that takes you down to the road, then left and towards Orelton Common, up the 'other' RoW, left at the road then halfway up Killhorse lane where the bend is take a right into Deer Park.

@molgrips thanks, that sounds promising. I've been using free Strava for ages but just signed up for the full version on a 60 day trial. I've not used the heatmaps function, I'll give it a go.

@singlespeedstu yes, Blackpool and Vinnals car parks are open but the Whitcliffe one isn't (or wasn't yesterday). Be aware that there has been a lot of forestry work in Bringewood so most of the trails, especially towards the bottom are blocked. Plenty to go at in Mortimer though and new stuff appearing all the time.
