I am off on another overseas adventure with the road bike (happy days), which means flying and while they are hellishly expensive, I think I'll buy a box rather than keep hiring...

Bike Box Alan seems like a good choice, but are there others I should look at?

Thule, maybe?

Want a rigid case rather than a bag - simply don't trust the airlines otherwise.

I've got a Bike Box Alan and can't fault it.  Used a Scion one for a couple of trips too and that handled some fairly serious abuse from Geneva's baggage handlers.

BBA is big though but it does make it very easy to pack everything up and secure every tube down.

I keep looking at buxum. Not cheap, but look pretty bomb proof.

I got the Thule one. Used it a fair bit. The first time the bike came loose from the internal metal frame and damaged a wheel. Possibly user error.

Prior or to this I had used a cardboard box without any issues.

Was a toss up between Alan and a VeloVault here. Went with the velovault.

Hmm, thanks all. I think it might need to be the Alan - just feels like the most tried and tested choice.

Just looking at the Buxum - wow.

Costly, but not outrageous for what it is, I guess.

Wonder if any of the options would be better for one piece carbon drops and stem thingy?

Bike Box Alan should work well, I've tended to pack my road bike with the stem still attached just retained using the strap in the box.

I have a bike box alan and it is very good, my only issue is that tyres have to be completely deflated to fit in the recesses (this may well apply to other boxes too). This is a PITA if you happen to use tubeless tyres. If you don't, then I would highly recommend it. I usually carry a strap to pull it along with as it is a little awkward to pull otherwise.
