Didn't really enjoy my riding much last year due to ongoing health issues, but they finally got resolved over the winter after getting a diagnosis of celiac disease and starting a gluten free diet. I'd had a lot of problems with my joints, pain and stomach problems when riding, and just generally not enjoying it. Stopped riding in the autumn after going to Glentress, struggling like hell, being miserable, then falling off and taking out my rear mech and a few chunks out of myself.
Got on the bike last Sunday after the OH persuaded me to give it a try because I'd been so much better and I was like a different rider. Still a bit slow up the hills because of a few months of doing not very much, but no screaming pain, no misery, and confidence to get my bike around the trail (Llandegla).
Was even faster than the OH on some occasions - feeling quite smug!
Just happy, happy, happy to be back out on the bike and enjoying it again. Feel like I have a new lease of life. I won't go into the fight I've had with the NHS to get the diagnosis, finally, but it's done now and I can get on with the rest of my life, hopefully filled with many more rides for years to come!
Cool! 🙂
Im in a similar boat - bad knee injury at the mega 2010. Just starting to feel like I did before it happened. Enjoying the riding much more. Here's to an ace summer!
Good on you for giving yourself a proper high feeling 🙂
Just getting back into regular riding again, although my reason was not my health but my wife's 🙁
Last nights ride tore my legs off but boy did I sleep well & wake up happy.
