Front the front end of my bike there is an increasingly load creaking should, particular on impacts. Headset is adjusted properly, no movement and no resistance. Tried a different front wheel and still makes the noise. Stem has been changed too so that leaves bars, fork and er no idea! Bars are Renthal carbon bars, forks 2015 pikes and headset is a hope something or other in Santa Cruz 5010 CC. In my non mechanical mind can the cups in the frame cause a loud creak? Or what about where the stantions go into the fork crown can that creak? Its bugging me! Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

my money is on the fork CSU.

Lost count of how many forks I've had this problem with.

Not just one brand either.

Just googled CSU and eventually found this

I'll give that a try after tea - sounds very familiar.

Its got much louder recently.

So I have a suspicion my 2015 Pikes are having the same issue.

What's the prognosis.? Are they dangerous or just annoying.? Can it be fixed or is it a case of bin the forks and go new.?  Is this still an issue or has it been fixed in recent model years..?

My Yari have just started doing this recently.

Trying the loctite 290 fix this weekend but have also ordered some Mattocs just in case. I like a quiet bike and it's pretty much silent except for this.

That's a good shout thanks, will get some 290 and give that a go and give RSF a call if it doesn't work.

I had this on my lyriks. Turned out that i needed to tighten up the cartridge in the left hand leg (16mm or so socket or big spanner needed on the fitting on the crown on the left side). It moved about half a turn and the creak stopped

I've had this recently, after checking everything it was my headset bearings.

Took them out, cleaned them, packed them with grease and replaced. Noise has gone away.

I thought it was my forks!

It was the fork definately - swapped them out for another pair and silent 🙂

They have always done it on and off but more off - all of a sudden seriously bad.

I'll contact RSF too.

Cheers guys

What is the loctite fix? Just squidge some in the gap?

Yeah Loctite 290. Few drops, leave bike upside down for a day or two.

It apparently works for some not for others . I will know in the morning.

I too have had a cracking/creaking noise going on and am sure it’s my dropper post despite having a RF bb and a set of RS pikes notorious for creaking noises too. I believe that when I took apart seat post clamp that the bit of grease helped sort the noise out but not for long.

Also Dave at RSF spotted a cracked spring guide on my brand new DVO forks when doing a travel reduction job for me which was useful to know. He fitted me in same day whilst you wait kinda thing which I appreciate.

I also picked up some much needed chain lube for this outstanding weather and some v much needed suss seal lube too.

👍😁

I'd already cleaned to cups etc.

I simply swap the fork and yesterday was the first silent ride in a long time 🙂

I had some Revalations that did this, and Rockshox fixed them under warranty.

Seems to affect the black stanchion forks most.

Before getting too carried away on more sophisticated fixes……sometimes it's the wheel QR (or bolt thru) - remove, grease and re-tighten and see if that makes a difference…...

This can also be the source of mystery creaks coming from the rear end too (oooer missus) - quick regrease of the rear qr/bolts is a good one to go for if rear end related - I've also recently had a nasty creak being caused by a small amount of dirt getting down the seat tube - so remove seatpost, wipe clean and re-insert…..

Always lots of simple things to try before going too sophisticated IME
