You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Had a great year, covering the best part of 4,000 miles of road and off-road so far and I've enjoyed a handful of challenging sportives and off road events during the year, but…..
After finding myself flying in the middle of October, I've suddenly found myself lingering about the house and not getting out…just can't seem to muster the motivation…already feeling the form disappear and the weight coming back
Anyone got any thoughts about how to overcome this malaise?
Ideas about some new training methods or something to mix things up in the winter most appreciated!
(and don't be tempted to say "just get out and ride"!!!)
Its the time of year!
I was in similar boat a few weeks ago combined with a new baby that refuses to sleep, motivation was at an all time low.
I have started doing shorter rides but trails that I know I enjoy and stopped putting pressure on myself to do big distances.
Im constantly tired and sleep deprived but happy and sleep deprived. Once your out it all makes sense.
Have a break. It's only been a month. Change in the weather isn't inspiring me at the moment.
Haven't Ibis got a new one coming out, might help 😆
just go ride around town or along a tow path etc.. remind yourself why you love riding
I am struggling a bit too. I have been running after work instead to keep stuff ticking over but am still using the "I'll start next week" excuse! I know it will only take a ride or 2 to get back into it and getting back into regular commuting to work will help.......but its just so dark and windy in the mornings! I am in the process of building up an Evil Sovereign so once thats finished hopefully excitement will help me sort myself out!
888trojan888 - you might be right there - I think taking a bit of pressure off the big rides is probably a good idea! Short but interesting blasts should do the trick!
jedi - same sort of idea - like it!
ultimateweevil - not helpful at all - one thing I haven't stopped is spending £'s on bike stuff!! 😀

I solved this issue by entering the Strathpuffer. Having something to aim for is always a good motivator.
I've been struggling the last couple of months too, but after an absolute blast at the Dudes of Hazzard enduro I've got a bit of my mojo back.

I also did this just to make sure 😉
Buy/Build a new bike.
I lost my mojo 4yrs ago - still not found it!
I've had similar happen over the last week or so, lack of motivation, feeling lacking in energy too. It happens to me every now and again.
Take a little break is my normal strategy, I normally find I get itchy feet within a few days and then chomping at the bit to get out again.
Also try Jedi's idea of just going for a pootle wherever, cruise around with no speed or distance expectations and just enjoy.
Whatever you do don't beat yourself up about it or feel guilty, you'll just end up resenting the rides you do do then because they're not 'good enough' and you'll make it worse.
You could also try going for a ride with new people, sometimes that helps for me.
Lost all my mojo too after i came back from holiday 2 weeks ago, i cant even be bothered finishing this commen........zzzzzz
I like to have a few hobbies on the go, having a break from one isn't a problem. Perhaps try something like fell running, hiking, calisthenics or boldering for fitness?
Same idea as 888trojon888 and Jedi. Just go for a ride with no aim or goal you want to achieve. Just the ride a bike because its fun. The ride doesn't have to be a hill climb that you've been trying to get a Strava KOM or a bit of trail that you've been trying to clean for ages. Just go ride ...
When the weather turned I set myself a weekly climbing target for my riding, whether road or MTB. Then joined the current Strava climbing challenge which is a bit more of a stretch but still do-able.
Just gives me that spur to get out the door - and of course once out on the bike I rarely regret it.
Just go out with some mates and mess around on bikes doing fun stuff, not aiming for an average speed or distance. Do some skids, wheelies and bunnyhops. They make everything better.
Get a cyclo-cross bike and get the best of both worlds.Dont know where you live but there may well be byways/white roads etc not get on a full suss but good fun on a cross bike and mix it up with the road.
