Was changing the pads on my arkose (rival 1 hydro discs). Being a bit cackhanded I’ve lost some little clip thing that goes over/around the retaining screw on the front brake. The screw still goes in fine and the pads look secure but it seems like losing a bit of the front brake is a bad idea - does it need replacing? Any idea where to get the right bit?

Be reet.
Threadlock on mine, saves losing it out on the trail.

It's a circlip?
You can buy them but does the pin screw in like with Guides?
If so thread lock will be ok. If just slides in I would try and get a circlip personally.
Yeah sorry should have been more clear. Its the circlip that i lost (inevitably dropped onto the floor and disappeared when I pulled the pin out), the pin is still there and screws into one side of the calliper. It’s got some blue stuff on the threads, presumably threadlock. Does the circlip actually do anything?

It wouldn’t stop me riding it, keep an allan key handy for checking it though.
It’s like Shimano have a lickle split pin on the end -just extra security to stop the pin coming out and your brakes pads jumpin. I’ve used a rubber cable donut on the end of a shimano one... never known one to come undone though.
I've had the pads come out of my front brake, fortunately at a point where a sudden loss of braking wasn't a huge issue. I don't know if I forgot the circlip, or the pin altogether, although given that I was 50 or so miles into a hilly ride, I'm surprised if the pin wasn't there at all at the start of the ride.
The heat cycles of a brake caliper may help the bolt find its way out, which I suspect is why Shimano go for belt and braces.
Don't forget the suspenders, Shimano have some plastic retainers that go around the caliper bolts:

Just stick a bit of wire through and bend it - paperclip?
