Hi Guys and Gals, I would like to ask your advice on Cyclocross bikes please.
At the moment i Mountain bike on a regular basis (Orange Alpine 160) on the road/Downhill and XC and love it. It is my only bike and as much as i love it found the fitter i have become from regular riding over the past year i now seek something to use for longer distances and the Cyclocross bikes fit the bill. I would like to use the bike for single track, Canal paths, some XC and road use.
I have been looking at several high street brands such as Cannondale, Trek, Giant as well as more bespoke british stuff like Kinesis.. My problem is there is so much out there i am slightly overwhelmed with choice. I am currently drawn to the Specialized Tricross Elite with disc as this seems to tick all the boxes however dear reader i seek your advice. I have a budget of £1400 and want the best i can get for the money. I have looked at the Boardman range and im not a snob in any way but every time i enter Halfords i get spots and feel sick with the thought of approaching a 16 yr old sales assistant and asking for advice on a bike.... or even a pump....
Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I've recently bought a cx bike to use locally on my commute as the enduro I usually ride isn't at all necessary. I went for a 2nd hand genesis vapour off here, I use it for my commute which consists of road, woodsy singletrack and a stretch of coastal path, I can't believe how much fun it is and surprisingly capable off road. The one thing I'd like that I haven't got are disc brakes but apart from that the bike is ace. There was a good review of the vapour disc in singletrack a couple of issues back and they seemed to rate it highly. I have nothing else to compare it to but I don't regret the purchase at all, it's perfect for my commute and no doubt will keep me riding more through winter. Smiles for miles, do it!

Ive recently bought a Marin Lombard cx and am loving it. So much fun on singletrack, and even done a 70 miler on it.
