Hi All,
I've not had a car for a few years but picked one up last weekend so now I can travel further for a ride!
Looking to join a ride or route suggestions for this Saturday, hopefully with as little flooding and death as possible!
Anybody have a ride planned and doesn't mind me joining or has done a route in the last few weeks that was good and passable.
Looking for a hilly loop within 30miles of Oxford or Banbury and ideally not a mud fest.
Thanks all!
Its the Mud fest bit thats virtually impossible round these parts North Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border here!
If I were after a reasonable ride I'd nip down to Christmas common and ride round there, it can be a little chalky but the riding is lovely.
If you find one, let me know .
Moon on a muddy stick. Good luck.
Chilterns area was drying up reasonably well lest weekend- if you're on the right routes after this week it might be pretty good!
Exactly Johnny, I might try Christmas Common area, I have a route that a friend sent me a while back.
Jkomo welcome to join along with anybody else (somebody that knows where they are going perhaps?!)
lots of the chilterns are drying out; post on our 'club' site
We started in Nettlebed, went North towards Maidensgrove, then back South to Bix and ended up in Stoke Row - all lovely and 90% dry.
Woburn Sands is weatherproof, its our local winter MTB venue when the chilterns become impassable. I'd offer to guide but I'm working this weekend and have also turned into a roadie!
Just get a map and go to Christmas common. A huge choice of routes, i ride most weekends and never do the same one. Can't offer to guide though as destroyed fitness will just be irritating for you.
Yeah around the stoner Valley is where I go when it's wet, but lots of stuff is drying out well all over now.
Lots of great riding, see this..

Where abouts are you? I have that guide ^^^ and I'm no longer riding at the moment so you can have it if you wanna come n collect it. Kidlington collection.
Why no riding Bradley, are the kids keeping you busy? Let me know when the bike come back out again!
Crashtest Do you have any maps or GPX of the route the club did? Not to worry if not I'll plot something similar and head out.
Thanks all for the recommendations
There's not any good riding to be had in the Chilterns.
Move along, these aren't the trails you're looking for
Hilly you say
1. Obtain map that covers from Chinnor to Goring approx
2. Note the Chiltern Scarp - the ridge that runs approx N-S from Chinnor to Goring
3. Note the Ridgeway (yawn)
4. Note the roads and tracks that go from the Ridgeway up the scarp (heading east) they do this all the way along from Chinnor to Goring.
5. Note the roads that run N-S along the top of the scarp
6. Plan route from Chinnor to the A4074 (Wallingford - Nettlebed) going up and down these in turn.
7. Set off ride 15miles, turnaround and climb the descents/descend the climbs you did on the way out.
I think you can get about 600m in 30miles if you include road climbs and descents too. It's a good work out and reasonably hard to get completely lost. The west of Xmas Common is much more interesting but also more confusing and in places muddier.
Enjoy!
