I'm still having a mental block when it comes to thinking about a new full suss frame.
i'm looking for 140mm travel, and preferably 2009/2010, i'm budgeting about £1300-1500 for this.
i also want something a little different to what the others are riding.
ideas so far are:
-orange 5, but one of us already has one
-scott genius, ridden by another
-trek fuel ex, ridden by another
-ibis mojo, out of price range
-yeti 575, but not heard god things about their rear end stiffness...

ideas???

depends on the budget but i think a cannondale prophet may be high on the list for me!

other than that, if i had more cash:
intense 5.5/tracer
foes FXR
yeti 575 (alu end)

perhaps a mondraker or lapierre, but not looked to much at them yet.

for the cash your taking about you should be able to get something pretty special!!

"5 spot is mint but the £££££s? go for a 5"

these bikes can't be used in the same sentence

thanks guys, a bit of inspiration there....
sorry for the essay, just thought i'd leave some feedback on your ideas.

had a look at the mondraker foxy, that looks sweet, but other than the awesome looks not heard much bout it,

i do love the orange 5, cracking ride and am extremely tempted to go for one in the NY, simple things like the choice of colours is a massive plus..

going to spark some controversy here i know, but i am not a massive fan of the looks of the 5spot. i just cant get my head around it, and its more than a little of putting they're great bikes i know.

lapierre zesty is a shout, can you even buy just the frames of them tho?? if so where would i start to look?

yeti 575 [alu rear] they appear to have phased out the alu rear end this year, probably due to the introduction of the AS-R 5, that is gorgeous... i mean it is bike porn... 😛 just a little short of the travel that i want only got the 5 inches

i'd consider the Blur LT, but mega bucks again for one of those aint it, same for the nomad, but that has far too much travel.

dont fancy a marin, they're quite heavy for what u get, my mate's got a wolf ridge, and it weight almost as much as my car... hahah, joking, but it aint light for the travel.

the cove hustler is pretty much the same as my kona dawg design wise and has the same travel, just a tad lighter a believe, so i'm gonna rule that out.

anyone else have any thoughts, Nicolai's Helius AC look pretty sweet, bit of till tho i believe.

Pace 506? I borrowed a 405 tester for a weekend a while ago when a customer didn't come for it and was very impressed. It climbed really well, and wanted to jump off everything.

Knolly Endorphin. Said it on another thread. Handmade, not mass produced, a1 customer service and if there are great deals from the uk distributor before the hike in prices. Also can reccomend ventana for similar reasons, but you mention the suspension design of the cove/kona, which is the same. Ventana are amazingly well put together and always have a very stiff rear end. IMO too many bikes are praised/dismissed because of the suspension design, when it's the execution of the design that matters. On a more sophisticated design front, Knolly's 4x4 linkage rides well and the endorphin is a perfect balance for the vast majority of UK riding I reckon. Pretty bompproof too.

Ridden a horst 5 spot, and turner come at things from a similar angle as ventana and I don't think you can compare the likes of turner, ventana, nicolai and knolly to mass produced frames when you are spending the same amount.

Wouldn't stop me buying an Orange 5 like a shot though. Rode one last month round glentress and I was really impressed.
