Looking into a new bike. I want something slackish and pedalable with a reasonable amount of comfort.( should i go 27.5 +)
nothing too extreme is needed as it will be getting used mostly on flatish trails so dont want to be lugging a 62 degree head angle downhill machine around all day.
looked at cotic, stanton, bird , what else should i check out
any recommendations ?
the 65 deg HA on the Pace is still pretty slack. I have the RC129 with similar angles and it feels rock solid, but only really shows off its true potential when pointed downhill or when ridden hard. For flat trails i'd probably want something a bit more nimble and responsive like an XC bike.
The Pace 627 looks nice to me for 27.5” - it says it can accommodate up to a 2.8” tyre.
Even the medium is quite long reach though for me - they aren’t quoting what the small geometry is (and they’re out of stock of the small / medium sizes anyway). I think the pace bikes are about the downhills with the head angle and long reach - although they still have short chainstays and recommend a short offset fork which should keep it fairly nimble.
Stanton Slackline looks very nice to me - but £999 for the 853 frame is a lot. Makes the Pace look very good value in comparison.
Cotic Soul would have been a good option of they still made it - BFE looks quite chunky to me. Not sure what the angles are on the Solaris / Solaris Max.
Bird are decent but not steel if that matters to you. Again the Zero AM is quite long and slack - I think the Zero 29 is probably less long / slack but has a very low BB.
At the risk of repeating myself, if something goes wrong you'll be on your own. What's worse, is that they'll blame you for it.
Not sure of your reply Science officer.
if anyone is in the pace user group on facebook can they approve my request to join please
Kingdom Vendetta X2 LE if you’re feeling slightly more flush, and it’s Titanium loveliness.
Slack but not too slack and can run 27.5 +
Orange Clockwork Evo 29 ?
Danti, had ti bikes before and the weight saving isnt worth the risks for me
The Pace RC627 can also run 29er wheels comfortably. I have fitted a 2.4 DHR2 on a 28mm inner width rim in the back of mine with a good 7mm clearance, and you don't need to slide the dropout all the way back. Couple this with the fact that the bb is already very low, you have a bike that is still lower at the bb than a lot of supposed 29ers.
🙂
