As title looking for a bike to do everything for me. Apart from being fully rigid I have the ramin for that;)
I'm a wheels on the ground type. I don't really do trail centres at all and I certainly don't jump. I like the ups as much as the downs. I like days out in the countryside (dales sometimes lakes) and doing my local loops
I'm currently erring towards a spark as it's 120mm but has a climb mode of 85mm or can be locked out all from the bars.
Does anyone know if the spark can run plus tyres like the genius can with the flip chip. Genius looks and sounds a great bit of kit for all rides but too much for me I'd say.
But lbs (who doesnt sell scott) pushing the trek fuel ex, lovely looking bike but a bit bouncy on climbs I'm lead to believe
Any other suggestions. I can't demo at lbs unless I fork out 50 quid a bike so really probably buying blind and probably picking up a last season model for sale prices which would limit available demos anyway . Gotta be a 29er and budget around 2.5k
Thanks
Recommend what you've got = Look for the Kona Hei Hei end of year deals
As above I recommend the Orange Segment. Great bike and very stable. Orange have a few going cheap(er) in their sale section.
i imagine the Stage 4 that followed it last year would be equally as ace and have seen some discounted to around 2.5k at various places including Sunset mtb.
i was blown away by the capability of the spark.
I had a 700 tuned and went straight to 29 wheels.
My wife has a contessa spark 910 and it will fit plus tyres. I just put a 2.8 reckon in to check.
It won't however fit a 3.0 purgatory
So, alloy or carbon (120mm) rear triangles work with both 29 and 27.5plus to 2.8
I’ve a 2017 730 plus currently running as a 29er. It came fitted with Rekon 2.8s.
For me it works far better as a 29er
I have the 2018 fuel ex8 in 29er guise and it rides really well . I ride similar stuff to you by the sound of it . The Trek re-Aktive Shock doesn't bob enough for me to notice . If you are thinking of spending 2.5K on a bike £50 to make sure it's right for you sounds like good value to me and some dealers will refund the £50 if you then buy the bike .
The suspension lockout system, hadn’t realised some are just basically on or off. With mine you get 120(130 front)/85/locked out and I use all three option a lot.
Love my Spark its very awesome.
I got an end-of-season Orbea Occam TR - 29er but will take 27+ too. Great bike, good all-rounder. Think they do all version too.
Canyon Neuron get almost top level kit for £2.5k
Mate has a Spark and loves it. Trek Fuel Ex is also seriously good but worth forking out for the Reactiv shock IMO. Both very capable climbers and great down as well. Reckon the £50 is worth it if you are serious about spending £2.5k!
