Built up a new to me Horsethief over two weeks ago and am yet to take it for a spin. What's wrong with me?

At first it was man flue, then I didn't want to get it dirty. Now it's just laziness.

What's the longest it's taken you to take a new bike for a spin?

3 and a half years.
I got sick, thought a new bike would me better. Bought a carbon trek madone.
My plan didn't work.
It's still in the box in the shed.

Srsly? 😯

Is that to prevent injuries, or because of time?

I bought an Epic frame and didn't build it for about 5 months.

For me, it was over 10 years. Stopped mountain biking (dicking about in the woods on my Raleigh Activator) when I was about 13/14, and got back into it 6 years ago. Longest break since then is probably about 2 months, most likely during winter.

I think I managed a couple of hours once, but usually it is a case of finish the build and take it for a spin. Guess I'm just not as patient as some of you.

Purchased a new cannondale scalpel in sept 2012 and didn't ride it until July 2013.
I had other bikes and it was a very wet year 🙂

What's the longest it's taken you to take a new bike for a spin?

I've a Chumba HX1 in the shed, unridden, bought it in 2012 (might even have been late 2011).

A mix of injury, followed by moving house, followed by general mehh-ness about it and having other bikes.

The next day. Just make sure it is what it is and then go. Everything else has to wait

I bought a bike which was delayed in transit, then moved house a few days later just as it arrived. It had to go into storage for 6 months.

I never rode a race bmx cruiser I bought on a bmx track before selling it. (just to the shop at the other end of the road once, a distance of less than the averasge length of a bmx track...)

I was out riding (mountain biking in the Lakes) with one of my mates the day before he got married. He went out again with his best man on the morning of his wedding. Not at all risky!

Took me about a month to build my Ti Ego and another two weeks before I took it out for its first ride, spent most of the time just staring at it! Though that first ride was well worth waiting for, up to Snowdon from Llanberis and back down Rangers then Telegraph Valley on a lovely sunny March day 8)

A few weeks has been my longest, which was mainly due to being busy.

There was a thread the same as this a few months ago, some of the responses were pretty scary considering people had spent a LOT of money on their new bikes in some cases, and some of the excuses used were really rather poor given the time frames involved!

Got a second Pace RC129 frame it's sat leaning against a wardrobe in my bedroom, been there for well over a month, finances and deciding what spec I want to build it. It's twin sister is seeing a busy life as a singlespeed.

Bought a On-One Fatty, never rode it. Swapped the frame after about 9 months for a Mukluk. Had that about 9 months, and not ridden that either.

Last year: Got a new frame, but didn't have the correct axle adaptors for my wheels, so had to wait 2 weeks to get them. Stuck them in, went jumping on it, after about 3min, fell off and broke my wrist, 8 weeks off the bike....... DOH!!

(sure bike spent the 8weeks sitting in the corner of the spare room laughing at me)

Some of these replies are shocking!

I'm with takisawa2 - forks, stem, bars and wheels and go for a quick scoot up and down the road.

Well, 2 weeks isn't too bad then. I still feel like a bad person, it was looking at me last night pining to get dirty.

Off to Lee Quarry this weekend to give it a play. Well, that's the plan. No doubt it will change to painting and lawn maintenance.

Bought a bargain bmx on eBay for £30 maybe rode it to the shop.
Sat in shed for 3 months before I admitted to myself it would kill me or break some bones... so relisted it and sold it for £70.

Seems like most of the bikes that dont get ridden are the n+ bike

From the time it is fully built to riding... same day on all bikes I've built! Built them for a reason and that was to ride 😀

3 month riding ban because im getting married.

Every day one could twist an ankle walking off the pavement or hurt yourself in any number of other ways we wouldn't normally think of as dangerous. Even the blooin' home is dangerous. By not riding you could get obese by the time the wedding rolls around 😀 I rode the day before my wedding and to be honest, the scariest thing I did in the build up was hurtling down steep, small country roads in a Tuk Tuk laid on by my best man as a means to travelling to a cracking night out 😀

I had my Dolan frame for ages before I got the bits together to build it. When I did, I couldnt' ride it for a couple of weeks but then it's a track bike so I had to wait til the session 🙂

Is her dream walking down the aisle to marry a slightly tubby, tetchy fella?

I'm pretty well under the thumb but my missus would never have imposed such a ridiculous ban, I'd have been a nightmare to live with...

She'd better be worth it.

I've been hitting the gym so i'm actually in better shape now than when I was riding. lol.

I don't hang about riding and have only been doing it for two years, (have a look at most strava segments at BPW in the top 10 and you'll see me), so a general lack of skill from not riding that long and a mix of large testicles has me eating dirt a lot.

4 days for a proper ride, and that's because I already had some riding planned that my other bike was better suited for. All the last few bikes I've built up are ready to roll within a couple of hours of the last component arriving and taken for a quick shakedown round the neighbourhood

On the wedding thing, I went the day before mine, and then the day after with some mates who hadn't been able to make it before (terrible idea with the hangover, but great fun all the same). I always get a dirty look from the other half when going out the day before something big. In her defence, I did dislocate my thumb the day before our son's due-date. In my defence, she always sprains her ankle on the second day of any holiday we've ever been on.

Remember when chain reaction was selling off Mmmmbops cheapy cheap? A mix of economic downturn, other interests and being well aware of my lack of Gnar-skills means I've still not gotten around to building mine up.

Partly influenced by this thread I picked up a set of forks today (the last big expense that I'd been dancing around). So now it's just headset, cables and tools I need to buy before deciding it's not for me and sticking it on the classifieds...

I rode on the morning of my (first) wedding - big group ride with most of the lads who were at the wedding in the afternoon, the ex mrs FBJ knew it was going to happen long before it was mentioned as did all the lads other halves.

My longest break from riding was after an operation, 8 weeks of no riding at all and it's no great coincidence that we separated (and subsequently divorced) towards the end of those 8 weeks. I need to ride at least every other day for the sake of my sanity and those around me. Mrs FBJ mark 2 is more than happy with that, plus she can ride a bike too :')

Since I gave up my fat party lifestyle I've never gone more than probably 10 days. I'm now 20 days since I had a big off and broke my elbow and I am missing riding so much. Probably not be back on a bike until Mid Jan, and then easy stuff first. Frustrating.

I spent months building my 224- I mean, entire evenings spent polishing out scratches. I had all the bits to build it in one evening but I ended up actually upgrading stuff before I ever rode it. Booked a couple of uplifts, did them on the trailbike instead, then when I finally got it ready to ride the inners uplift was full 😆 And I hate pushing up. So it didn't get properly ridden for about 4 months after I started it.
