I have just got some sqlabs pedals, that have 8mm longer spindles than standard, and they seem to really work for me biomechanically, but apart from the longer spindle they are a bit of a crap pedal, they have non of the flat bits that modern shimano pedals have that that you press into when pedalling. I like my shimano xt m8120 pedals, but just want longer spindle on them.
Does anyone know if anyone actually makes a long spindle for shimano pedals?
i’ve never seen longer spindles for xt pedals.
crank brothers are the only other pedals i’m aware of that are available with longer spindles.
Shimano make different spindle lengths for road pedals (3mm longer than standard) and XTR (3mm shorter than standard, for use on gravel bikes), but I am not aware of anything aftermarket. The only aftermarket spindles are the super light ti version, but they are standard length.
Speedplay used to have alternative spindle lengths, no idea of current situation.
I’m not sure if pedal extenders will work with MTBs but SJSCycles have them.
One other option is to get cranks with different Q-factor, I went from RF to Shimano Superboost and got 6mm narrower Q-factor when I got shorter cranks.
For me with my big clown feet (size 50) it isn't just the q factor, I also need some extra space for my feet, so a wider crank would only solve part of the problem, and I am not sure are available anyway.
The standard shimano crank to MTB pedal centre measurement is 55mm, road is 52mm (from what I can make out the "long" road spindle is just the standard mtb spindle, and vise versa for the short MTB option)
Standard crankbros is 52mm and the long spindle 57mm, so not much of a gain from standard shimano, and frankly I find the crank bros clip in vague and annoying..
I tried sqlabs pedals with both 62mm and 69mm crank to pedal centre measurements and 62mm pretty much felt spot on for me.
Are there any engineering machinists on here who fancies taking a commission to make some? Although even as I typed that I considered it would probably be prohibitively expensive.
Raceface have longer axles for their cranks. Nominally these are for super boost etc rear end however nothing to stop you using them on other frames. They also do spacer kits to fill out the gap. I used them on a boost plus frame to give better chainstay-crank clearance. You can then use non-boost (iirc) offset rings so the chainline stays in the right place.
I have some of flat pedal 50X in wide (actually no wider than HT PA03a..), but for their SPD pedals, I believe that they are made my Wellgo with custom axles (and a heft in price)

SQLab 502

might be possible to so some swaps reckon for example, the SQLab 502 longer spindle would (appears) fit the body of the Wellgo M221 as they seem to share the same centre body design - may be other options also:
