You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I like a good bit of CX, but I'd like to do some longer CX races rather than just the typical 1 hour blast.
Does anyone know of any distance CX races (apart from 3pCx)?
Or am I imagining races that would be far too niche?
Mills hills cx sportive next weekend bud. 30 mile route starting Mytholmroyd community centre and around hebden Bridge area. Entries taken on day.
I'm not aware of any currently in the UK. Last year Mark Wyer organised a 4 hr CX Enduro at Thetford, which was fun. Didn't seem to happen this year. Alternatively CX Sportives seem to have become quite popular.
There may be something along those lines next year. Early spring in Wales, I imagine it won't be overly publicised though so you'll need to keep your ears open.
Whilst not CX specific, Sailsbury Plain Challenge, HONC etc are perfect for a CX bike, or just turn up at a MTB XC race and wee in the shoes of all the FS guys you overtake DH.
I've just done the Lakeland monster miles up in Keswick. 101km 2000m of cross based lunacy
Working on something atm. Hope it works out! Great course (private estate) and want to have good music/beer/food in the mix.
Nice ideas, cheers chaps.
There is also the clif cross in april, run by the same people who do the mills sportive next week. It's not a race, but a very nice sign posted ride on a cross bike.
Tang, tell me more! Need any help?
Hi Pete! Keep meaning to drop by, life is full to the brim!! Will certainly need some help. I'll be in touch.
Hell of the West was today.... One to look out for next year if you want a hard day out on a CX bike...
We also did the Monster X, good route and with a real sting in the tail.
As someone who only rides on tarmac when travelling between off-road 'stages' it was totally different - but managed it in 7 hours on my MTB, so well happy.
But unsure why anyone would ride a bike, that:
a - meant they had to push up each steep climb, due to gearing, and,
b - had to ride gingerly down off-road so as not to puncture
❓
Not a race as such but there's been a few longer distance cx rides setup by these guys in the past year or so;

IF nothing else, the gpx's for the routes may be of use...
CX sportive series has 3 events 40, 60 and 80 km routes 1st one is in Salisbury at the end of November.
There's Adventure Cross in Cornwall too:

A - Nope, cleaned all the climbs bar the last fire road drag that required a brief stretch to get ride of the cramp.
B - learnt that on the first descent, discs on a CX are good for stopping but bad for descending speeds.
Managed it in just over 5 1/2 hours, bar the double pinch flat could've gone 15 mins quicker too.
EEyyyy I'd be very interested in longer distance Cross..
Didn't know it existed 😳
Marvelous 8)
Anyone interested in a 6hr endurance cx race? solo/pair/team at the end of the cx season. New venue, fantastic varied tough course in a beautiful hidden valley on a private estate in the Cotswolds, never ridden. Fresh hot food, local ale, good music and decent prizes. Its coming together with help from some top riders and event organisers. It's an idea I've had for a while and all the parts are dropping into place. I have to just agree to run it!
Now that sounds interesting Tang, what kind of date have you in mind?
End of Feb is being talked about.
Spot on, the racing is out of the way, and a nice prep for the upcoming mountain bike season. Are you thinking of making it acheivable without lights.
Yes def without lights. Racing during the light hours, party after....overnight prior if people want to camp. Thats the slot, post season and before the xc gets underway.
Liking the sound of this, if you can avoid the 23rd february that would be spot on, it's the cannock winter classic, and also the last round of the thetford series. Might have a few entries from the squad I ride with.
Aye, working with BC to avoid clashes, cheers for the heads up.
Sounds good Tang and good tip off about the Cannock race Benji.
I'll be in for both of those.
Feb in the Cotswolds.
Mud tyres then . Yeah. A nice trip over from the FoD
Not all mud...good mixed course. But yes, unless it's freezing, it will be dirty!
hitthenorth sort of.
Would be very keen on this, as I'm sure many of my fellow Cotswold Veldrijden team mates would be 😉
This needs to happen tang, please, please, please!
Not much else on in Feb, sounds good. I fancy sonetng longer than the standard hours.
Just sorting details, but looking good.
Trailbreak/cxsportive are doing three rides again .
One on Salisbury based ,one chilterns and one on the
Sarf downs .great fun last year IMO .
Like the sound of this Tang
Keep us informed!
You are most welcome to the GPX files from velomorpha.com though it would be better if you turned up on the 28th December and had a go. Though not an officially sanctioned race we do record your start and finish times so it is more like a gentleman's race. We will be changing some parts of the original route this year for added VAINGLORIOUS | FUTILE. Just to be clear this is not a CX sportive and at this time we do not charge entry.
In order to keep a control of my costs (yes, there are some) and to know you have serious intent to turn up there is an entry process. Details can be found here: http://velomorpha.com/2013/09/06/the-return-of-selbstbestimmungsrecht/
Mark of velomorpha.com
Iron Cross in the states next September ?
My likes the sound of that tang
Entry is now open, if you were interested:

VAINGLORIOUS | FUTILE
Blixa - looks good, but...
WTF!!!Entry is strictly limited to 25.
It's a purely arbitrary number, written down just because :-). I can't imagine any more than that would want to do it to be honest.
If I receive more postcards than originally anticipated I will change that.
Oh, PS. This is the UCX (75 km) version for the 28 December (not the longer, more futile 120km version, we organised in the summer, that you're all downloading <9 people turned up to that by the way, and they were friends. We still have unfinished business with that route>) though there are a few changes: White Chalk Hills UCX Original
Just so you're all caught up on the concept of what ULTRACROSS is all about please read this: http://velomorpha.com/2012/11/03/white-chalk-hills-ucx/ and especially this: http://velomorpha.com/2012/10/22/ucx/
Thanks
Mark
Few hitches so it's touch and go. Poss have to think of a September event now. Might do something fun/social in the winter. I will keep you posted.
I'm looking at an event something like an audax but mixing up back roads, farm & forest tracks, bridle ways and bits of singletrackabout 100K circuit round Shrewsbury. Keeping it cheap (£5 ish) by avoiding any timing or mid ride snacks. Route card or gpx for directions, local pub/cafe/shops for food & drinks with tea/coffee & cakes at the finish and see if I can get some local beer for each finisher. Kind of Auda-CX if you will, not sure whether there'd be interest in it as a concept though seeing as Audaxes appear to have low uptake and people appear to like their sweetie stop half way round.
Mark - postcard in the post, as soon as I remember 😀
