OK, so I'm now p'd off with all this rain. Thinking of a long weekend riding somewhere in Sept / Oct
If I was going to drive down and as an alpine virgin what resorts should I be considering?
If I was going to fly where would you recommend ideall with an uplift / chairlift? Always fancied Finale Ligure in Italy.

French Alps will all be closed come October, might be some resorts still running uplift in Switzerland.
I think the lift in luchon is open weekends all year. Fly to Toulouse, then hire car. Great riding, big uplift, easy to find trails.
I'm out near Morzine for the last week in Aug then Riviera Bike first week in Sep they're based near Finale and from what I've heard are great, the lifts in Morzine and surrounding area will close Sep/Oct see [url= http://en.portesdusoleil.com/summer-lifts.html ]here[/url]
