What's out there?
Orange P7
Cotic Soul
Ragley Blue Pig
On-one 456
and...?
Add a Dialled Alpine
And a Cotic BFe
There's the Evil Soverign too
NS Surge.
Hx1
Sinister Ridge
Talk about open question. What riding, etc. would be useful to know. But, just to join in with bikes du jour - Stanton Slackline.
Pipedeream Sirius, as you'll want to do a bit of climbing, no?
Which I'm running with a RS Recon with U-turn, great on the ups and great on the downs. I went for function (U-turn) over sophistication.
What's this Hx1 thing?
As fot riding style, going up steep stuff and then coming back down steep stuff.
DMR Trailstar
the new Marin Rocky Ridge.
chumba hx1 - like a sc chameleon except slacker, with more clearance, and nicer looking 🙂
My Dialled Bikes Prince Albert has been to the south of France twice, is that not long travel?
🙂
Orange Crush
I was looking for one this year, I wanted something similar to the Orange P7 but on a budget.
Shortlisted:
Orange Crush
Santa Cruz Chameleon
Commencal Ramones 1
Went for the Commencal at 850, has served me well so far.
i got an ns surge. There's a marin or 2 out there
Theres a really nice Cotic BFe in orange for sale on ebay.
Although a Blue Pig sounds like it would be ideal for the riding you describe
The chumba looks very nice.
Suppose I'm after a P7, but lighter.
I bought a Soul recently and love it, couldn't recommend it any higher.
Would have been a very tricky decision if I'd seen this beforehand though....

Genesis Core or Latitude, depending on budget.

Had my Pig 2yrs now and loads of people are impressed, esp those following behind me on fs bikes 😉
Stanton Slackline or a BFe would be my choice. I currently have a BFe, but visit the Stanton site almost daily to get all flustered looking at the Slackline.
honourablegeorge - please don't post pics like that... I want a Slackline even more now.
Had my Pig 2yrs now and loads of people are impressed, esp those following behind me on fs bikes
+1 😆
Did i hear someone mention the Chumba HX1 🙂

@prezet - I know... I'm trying to justify it to myself. I could have the Soul for some days, and the Slackline for...er..... slacker days.
honourablegeorge - I really don't need one, as I've only just built up the BFe. But that Slackline just looks gravy... Hmmm.
Another one for the Slackline!
If it wasn't for the slackline i'd probably have brought a soul by now. Major indecision!
May want to check out the Transition Trans Am too. Lovely looking bike and a good write up in the latest Dirt.
Edit: one consideration is if you want to run a dropper seatpost. Many of these bikes have a 27.2 seat tube which really does limit your choice.
Kona Five-O, bought the frame and built it up but they are available as complete bikes and very nice with it.

Just out of interest, what's the definition of long-travel these days?
130+?
150+?
My Voodoo D-jab is designed for 130mm forks, and I run 140mm Thors. Does that count?
Never heard of or seen the Slackline before...now I want one, I want one, I want one!
Love my bfe. love it.
Never seen the slackline or the Chumba before. Like the look of them both but I need a tapered headtube so might well be tempted to dabble in a bit of chumba!
Does anyone actually bother looking at the geometry of these frames and picking whats best for them, or do you just pick what looks nicest?
Looking at the chumba and the stanton, they look very different.
Had my Pig 2yrs now and loads of people are impressed, esp those following behind me on fs bikes
+2 😀
Stanton are a relatively new UK maker - if the Slackline is the look of the quality they're going to be producing then they're going to be an exciting company to watch out for.
Will be very tempted to pick up a Slackline for next year.
Have we defined what "long travel" is yet?
I love my Orange P7, 140mm travel but in my eyes that is a trail bike not a long travel bike. I also have an old Planet-X Jack Flash that has 160mm Domain's on it, now that is a long travel bike and is really silly fun going downhill.
its all about what looks the toughest 🙄
I'd say 130 plus is long travel (but I'm an xc gayboy)

Yeah, the Stanton and the Soul are very different. For me it'll probably be the soul base on what I'd be using for most. If I was after more of a play bike it'd definitely be the Stanton.
I'd say 140+ is long travel hardtail... although I'm happy to wind my BFe down to 120 for general xc duties.
I have a 2011 Orange crush and it does me fine up and down.
Cove Stiffee
Love that slackline <3
That Slackline looks so good, I want one.
456, and Carbon 456. Don't like the former much but the latter has quietly impressed me, best hardtail I've had since my Soul and seems like it might turn out to be better even than that.
Like has been asked I am curious what long travel is for a HT ?
I thought I wanted a P7 (140mm) but after riding a few went for a Whyte 905 (120mm)*
What would I find different if I got eg a 160mm BFe or a 120mm FS instead?
* I have measured the travel on this bike and it has 130mm - anyone else got that travel on their Rebas?
Have to admit I keep thinking about that Slackline. May have to purchase one to build up for next season...
