I'm amazed you don't suffer from flex issues with that fork and those wheels...
Is 135-160 long travel?

Still working on this- it's massive and heavy and kinda hard work tbh but it's bloody awesome in a straight line and pretty damn good at techy stuff. Still can't make it work in nontechnical squiggles, I always put it in the wrong places. First ride out I was doing personal bests in one place and riding into trees in the next 😆
TBF I wanted a Remedy or a Five. But this was cheap!

I quite like the BMC Northwind. Is it your only bike ?
They're quite rare those BMCs - good suspension design (though I think they're shorter travel than they claim)!
@Renton... Nah, got my hardtail and xc racy thing too. TBH I'm going from a fairly short 26er to a bloomin long 29er with more travel so it's no wonder it feels a bit clumsy, but I did feel like a fanny trying to ride it down glentress red. Looking forward to getting it up to fort william and kinlochleven and just letting it run though.
I think they're not so much rare, as unpopular tbh- Evans is knocking the base model (which is what this started out as) out for £1800!
Northwind, how's the internal routing on yours, mines be noisy as hell and the headset is creaking bad to?
Mine is the alu one so external cables mostly. Bizarrely the bike arrived with no bottom headset bearing (everything else was there, so it looked complete but the bearing fairies had struck) so it has a hope in.
So basically I am of no help!
haha no worries, I've stuck mine in the shop now and told them I don't want it back till it's quiet!! Think it's gonna be the same route as you and replace headset and bb..
If it's a medium I'll swap you for a nice quiet alu one 😆
Monster truck that's been even more monster trucked since this picture was taken.

weird how only a few years ago 29ers looked really odd, all these bikes look really cool!
Some really nice looking bikes peeps.
Keep them coming.
Some crackers here.
Mines only 130/120 😥
Trailrider Jim. I would of ended up on one of those but bought the Orange instead.

Yes, I remember we exchanged a few emails about it. You seem happy with the Five, so I'm pleased for you. Bikes like these mean I'd really struggle to drop a wheel size now. Modern trail 29ers are bloody great machines.
can i ask a question to all the big travel 29er owners.
do you think you are a good enough rider to do you bike of choice justification.
when i ride my enduro i feel like i am in control on it and no matter what i rode, if i had the balls, would knock it out of it's stride.
everything feels a bit slow and sedate when riding it.
i read a review from the states about it. they said that no rider is capable of taking it to it's limits.
wonder it this is so.

Ton, I ride my tallboy Ltc as hard as possible, or until it goes tits up, I'm sure there's more potential there, have to wait till my balls have got bigger though
Snap renton
Absolutely loving this bike and it's completely changed my view of long travel bikes. I thought it would only come out when I was heading to a trail center but it's a blast to ride everywhere and even climbs really well 🙂
Actually, could you do me a favour as your suspension setup is the same as mine? Could you ping me your shock ID Code as mine has lost its sticker? Many thanks 🙂
Ton - Mikeep rides his Enduro pretty well, that's taken at the end of the EWS - think he finished top 5 in his category, which seems to be a common occurance 🙂
I take my Five29 down DH trail, enduro trails, to enduro races.... do I push it to it's limits? Totally not, as I know riders who would knock a full minute off me in a 5 minute stage on the same bike.
Does it mean I don't deserve to ride it, or enjoy riding it? Totally not. It's a monster.
However, I'll be on something carbon with tiny wheels next year for races, I@m still keeping the Five though.
ton - Membercan i ask a question to all the big travel 29er owners.

This is not a Massive 29er Specific issue, every bike i own is better than I am... Tomorrow I'm going to fail to take a rigid 29er to its limits.
Mine is unashamedly monster truck tbh, so it's not really the "right bike" except when things are messy. But it's not terrible the rest of the time. I wouldn't have it as an only bike.
Mid travel rather than long but here's my Evil Following...

Off to do the Techie Devil on it on Sunday... Can't wait! 😀
Bikes like these encourage you to ride them harder, but if you cross your limit threshold, they're the sort of bike you really want to be on, to get you out of trouble. For me, they're fun with a dose of safety thrown in, just in case.
@Ton, The enduro is an extremely capable and fun bike when pushed hard. Sometimes I feel like it could take a rider that's a bit stronger to push it to its limits and extract more speed. Gonna hit the gym this winter to bulk up a bit and see what happens 🙂
@rickon - Cheers 🙂 - you'll soon be smashing my enduro times once you've moved house 😉
@Ton.
I will probably never be anywhere near good enough to find the limits of the Five 29 however it does give me a lot more confidence to try stuff I would never have tried before. Plus it eggs me on to go faster.
For me it's not about wheel size. It's about a bike that fits and gives me a smile every time I ride it.
Totally agree about the Five, it really encourages me to go faster and harder whilst remaining confident that the bike is well within it's comfort zone. I'm smashing all my technical and downhill PB's since I bought the Five 🙂
Andyyjh. I will have a look at the shock for you. Give me a couple of days though as the bike is all packed and wrapped up ready to be sent to my in-laws.
Cheers.

Meta AM 29er, Pike up front, nice big tyres (2.4 ardent grazing the paint at the back, but worth it). Bit of a learning curve to come back to as you really, really have to get the weight over the front wheel. I often forget and you can watch me sail off into the bushes on the first tight turn of a ride. It's worryingly capable if you point it downhill and hold on (far more than me!) and I was surprised how not-slow it was in tighter stuff.
Only things that frustrate me are the cable routing and the weight, of which there is a fair amount to get up to speed
Lighter tires and rims if you want to get it up to speed quicker 🙂
Lighter wheels in general would be nice, but that's expensive! Lighter tyres are something I'm looking at when these wear out but I like the 'plough-through-stuff-ness' of these ones...
Light Bicycle Carbon rims transform the ride on a 29er.
Mboy what's your email address mate. I need to ask you a question.
Cheers.

Light Bicycle Carbon rims transform the ride on a 29er.
I'm sure they would! My solaris is getting some first thought as I ride it far more. Some time, maybe
LT plastic Tallboy on its maiden journey from Whitefish to Fernie via Red Meadow lake (piccie location) and a continental divide pass.
140 miles that started in brilliand sunshine and finished in one of the most frightening storms I have ever been caught in. If it wasn't for the quick thinking of my wife and her keeping an eny on my SPOT tracker, it could have ended horribly.
The bike is as awesome as the mountains it plays in.
Some great bikes in this tread 🙂 Loving the Evil, it looks like it's name!
Swanny, if that Meta rides anything like my Orange then the weight disappears surpringly quickly. I used to be obsessed with shedding weight of my xc bike and wouldn't consider anything over 30lbs but I'm glad I gave the Orange a try as even though it's a tank, it rides extremely well. I've heard the Meta is very good also so if you can, loose some weight from the rims but otherwise just ride 😀
SC LT, one of my fav bikes. Mate I ride with has one and I secretly lust after it, lol. Nice pic btw.
So these carbon rims from Light Bicycle, are they really tough enough for BPW type riding? Not sure if I would trust carbon with big hits on rock! Very stiff and strong but once they reach their limit, the end.
So these carbon rims from Light Bicycle, are they really tough enough for BPW type riding?
Mine have been fine with loads of Welsh/Scottish rocky stuff, an up lift day at Inners and a week in Verbier.
Smacked both front and rear rims several times and not a mark on them.
Nice, thanks for the feedback. Shame I bought a set of the Hope Enduro's recently but I will consider these when funds allow.
Has anyone put one of there LT 29ers in a "bike box alan"?
Planning a few trips next year, and could do with a transport solution for my xl enduro, and don't really trust a bag.
It might not be "short travel" but the geo is more "aggressive" than some of the longer travel ones on here, plus mboy has already shared his.....

Love that Evil. The orange is spot-on!
The Orange is ace, mines above in Mark's pictures... occasionally I kinda wish it wasn't so loud, but once your on riding WGAF
Renton: mbonnes AT gmail DOT com
He was doing the "techie devil" yesterday and hasn't surfaced yet..
Looking at buying an "aggressive" 29er to replace my trusty old Specialized Pitch and maybe my DH bike too.
I had my heart set on a Trailfox but open to peoples thoughts on other models?
Thanks
circuts.... would defo recommend the trailfox, as most people will there own bikes...if you need a go on one and are ever my way your more than welcome.
I wouldn't personally recommend my enduro. like I said earlier, I seem to be struggling a bit with it.
it may be me, but I have got on with most bike I have owned.
Cheers for the input lads.
I'm over in Ireland Dave, but thanks for the offer anyway.
Did you go for a carbon one?
Ton, is this your first 29er as a matter of interest?
I'll bring it with me I'm over Thurs!! that would upset the wife 😛
Yeah carbon front and alloy rear, to be fair I've swapped most parts out but it was fine as it came I just got a bit carried away,I went from a rumblefish to this so completely dif feeling to it, but I love it and def feel much more confident on it.
Deffo bring it.
I can give you the grand tour of Dublin and Wicklow!
Ton, is this your first 29er as a matter of interest?
no mate, far from it. been riding 29'' for the last 10yrs.
but this is the largest travelwise I have owned. I rode a ventana el capitan for 3 years. 130mm front and back. it was a great bike to ride, fast up, across and down. the endure seems very cumbersome on anything but downhill. it also wanders off like easily, and you find yourself fighting to get it back in line.
My first 29er... an amazing bike, totally fell in love with it, great fun.
My current 29er... in the process of falling in love with it, it is a stunningly good bike.
Clearly I haven't a clue how to get a picture up.... will have a dabble.

I have been! At home, away in various bits of Wales, straightlining stuff at Antur was a highlight, round the highlands last summer. Even strapped some overnight kit to it to ride out to a bothy- the traction you get with a bag on the bars is ludicrous.
As you say, as soon as you get it up to speed the weight disappears and I think the stiffness becomes the dominant thing- you can just chuck it about. It still feels like a lump if you try and pedal it across country quickly for any length of time though, steady is definitely the name of the game
Thanks Z1ppy... just realised that the state of the garden might draw some scorn....

Just pretend that's some north shore you've built over the dandelions!
np MBnut 😉
A weed is a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, "a plant in the wrong place".
If he's likes the Dandelions there, then they ain weeds!
Found a more recent one. Excuse the Enduro wnaker on piloting duties.
