How long is long?

My bandit rides great but that's probably more medium travel.

I recently bought a g150 which has 'only' 150mm travel. I've only ridden it a couple of times (one ride a skills course I should really start a thread about) and I'm loving it. Very different to my whippet. It feels like the front wheel is way in front of me and weighs nearly 32lb but I'm not finding it anything like as much work as I feared and the ride is like a magic carpet. I really need to get it out on a group ride to find out whether I will in fact be suffering at the back as soon as there is an uphill. I'm feeling pretty confident I will be fine. No pics yet, maybe once it sees some sun.

Hopefully going to build one of these soonish. I swore I wouldn't touch another alu 170mm travel bike like my old 36lb SX Trail, but I figure I can build it down to below 30lb these days.

[img] [/img]

The thing putting me off is that it looks to much like my old SX Trail as well, so I'm half afraid it will ride like one.

Only 150mm travel, so not super long travel. It does everything, best bike I have ever owned. Edit: The monarch plus shock I have now transformed it. I will never have a full susser that doesn't have adjustable compression settings now. I ride it in climb mode for most of my local trails 🙂

Sadly I've come to realise it is too small for me, so it being replaced by something with fairly similar numbers, but a lot longer.

Pronghorn PR6-LT. 160/150mm front/rear. You'll thank me for not posting a pic.

It rides absolutely magical, and I'm dreading the day something terminal happens to the frame as I have no idea what I could replace it with that's as good.

Some things can't be unseen!

I've got a Mondraker Dune. Goes uphill okay with only a wee bit of movement from the suspension then seemingly blats through anything i point it at on the way down. Bombers up front help with that. This is the only half decent photo I have of it.

Pivot Mach 5.7. Not got a convenient pic at the mo..
Way better uphill than you'd think.. No, better than that.. It's really good
Downhill is just amazing to.
Only downside for me is the BB is quite low so I can hit rocks with the crankarm if peddling up or down..

160/140mm, but a set of linkage plates would take it to 160mm. Might need beefier wheels though...

160mm both ends and the wrong size wheels.

Goes up way better than it has any right to, goes along just fine, goes downhill like excrement from a spade.

This is my El-Guapo V3 I've had it just under 2 years and it has been hammered, if I ever try and sell this frame no one should buy it.

Should be 170mm front but I run a 160mm 650b fork to get the same geometry, rear travel is 150mm. For a 26 inch bike it is very stable and demolishes rocky descent. Though since I have got my very stiff Marzocchi 350CR forks I have noticed the rear flex more when smashing those fast rocky peak District descents.

Oh and I wish it had a bit more reach.

Is 160 really "long travel" now, given it's becoming a very commonly used size? Almost everyone up here seems to have 160/170 bikes

Soon to be fitted with some Carbon wheels when I get home...

The DBAirCS shock really does change the Pivot Mach6, best money I have ever spent on a bike.
Did 90km on it this Saturday, so I'd say its an all day big travel bike!

The more and more I see Alpine Fives the more I want to try one. No doubt it's total overkill for 75% of the riding I do but it doesn't stop me from wanting one 🙂

Mine. 165mm/180mm.

By far the 'biggest' bike I've owned and will ever need to own.

On the flat: awesome bike. Great fun and encourages you to loo for new lines.

Downhill: amazing. Bottomless suspension and a really confidence-inspiring ride. You get through / over something and wonder how you did.

Up hill: well, lets not talk about that. It gets there... eventually. Definitely a sit and spin bike though.

Excuse the dust, I've just got back off the mountain 🙂

My old Pitch (with lyrics, shimano XT brakes, 1x10 XT, hope/mavic wheels, high rollers, reverb, etc).

Absolutely awesome as long as there was some gradient going down. An utter slog everywhere else, it climed OK it was just boring (and hard work). Eventualy decided I'd rather have a bike that made the other 90% that isn't rocky decents enjoyable rather than tolerable.

Looking to scratch that itch again, but thinking either an Anthem SX or a Trance.

My main ride, other than a winter hardtail is the one below.
Spesh Enduro EVO.

180mm rear through a CCDB coil.
170mm front from the 55Rc3 Ti.

Only thing holding it back is ME.

I sometimes wish I still had a long travel tail bike, usually when I'm clanging down rocky descends.

However it seems my mid travel 29er is actually just as quick. Just not as comfy.

150/150 which is long enough for me. Cant really ever see me needing more as its much more capable than I will ever be. Bloody comfy though.

I used to have an Enduro Evo.

P1010943 by i_ache, on Flickr

It was good especially going down over rocky stuff and at DH tracks. However it always felt a bit OTT for most of my riding.

So I sold the frame and got a Carbon Stumpjumper.

Untitled by i_ache, on Flickr

Yes it is only 140mm rear travel but it still has the 160mm DPA Lyriks. The bike is fantastic, it has made me so much faster at just normal riding because it pedals so well. The fact it is about 7lbs lighter than the Enduro, now I have made a few upgrades, helps too. Its not as stable on the properly rocky stuff like the double black at Antur but on smoother DHs it actually seems faster. Its a bit of a pain that I can't really use my Rock Razors as they are too big for the frame but Larsons are fine.

Banshee Rune V2 here (no pics - work computer won't let me access image hosting websites). 160/160 travel through a CCDBa and a pair of Devilles.

It climbs better than it has any right to as it's not a light bike at 32lbs and is fun on the descents (more fun then I remembered having had it out of a hardtail induced hibernation this week). It's easily more capable than some of my old DH bikes and a better bike than I'll ever be rider.

I had 3 criteria to meet when I bought my enduro.
1. comfort
2. something suitable for my size
3. something to ride rockier terrain

so far it has hit all the marks.
I am amazed at how much suspension has come on since I last bought a susser.

Nice, what size wheels?

The newer ones, like yours, are supposed to be lighter and better pedaling than my old Evo. The air shock will help that too.

Voltage FR. Best bike ever (probably). I've not found anything as fun or versatile as these bikes yet. Not good if you're tall though but not an issue for me. I can even climb on it with a long post. And yes I know I need to sort the short brake hoses and dirty block paving out.

If we're allowing 150 front 140 rear then this counts:

I wouldn't call it long travel though.

My covert is 150 up front and 140 at the rear, but it's a 29er so must be at least equivalent to 180 fr 170 rear on 26" wheels?

Oh go on then, seeing as I saw one above, 180/170 do it all bike, pedals up very well. Light wheels/tyres makes a huge difference. But yes, a very efficient trail bike and loads of fun

After getting excited posting a photo, I've now re-read the first post:

Scott Genius LT
Front: 180/140mm / Rear: 185/110mm

Climbing
Whack the front into 140mm, rear into traction mode (110mm rear) and it climbs really well, if climbing on road you can lock out front and rear via handlebars giving it a hardtail climb ability. Putting it into 140mm lowers the front putting more weight on the front, stopping the front lifting when climbing steep stuff it also allows you to breathe better.

Descending
Descends really well with in both traction and full mode. I use a mixture of both modes, keeping the front in 180mm. If its really rocky/bumpy/fast I will put it in full 185mm, if its pumpy sorta trail then traction mode really helps keeping the speed pumping.

A few other riders have ridden it around the car park. Let me say first they are all taller than me, I'm 5'8", most were 6'+ and weigh a fair bit more too. I have a small frame, full mode is set up for big hits and traction mode is setup to have some more preload for small fast bumps and pumpy'ness. The comment that keeps coming back in full mode is "This thing is like a comfy sofa!"

Comparison to Bronson C 150/150
My friend also has a Genius LT, so I rode the LT he rode the Bronson. He was quicker first time on the Bronson than his Genius LT, travel ain't everything. 😉

Faster than the Hardtail?
It feels faster on the hardtail, feels a lot faster, but in reality the LT is faster. You are probably thnking it all depends on the terrain. I tested this at AC and was consistently quicker on the motorway sections than my Hardtail.

Fills the space between the dh bike and 4x/jump quite well.

Mine is a large, 6ft tall (33in inside leg), bars are 43inches from the ground (one 10mm spacer under the stem & 20mm rise renthal fatbars @ 780mm total bar width)

Drop post cable was pretty easy tbh, threaded a gear cable inner down the seattube, followed by a gear outer, then use the red connector which comes with the reverb to attach the reverb hose to the gear cable.

Cheers sir HC.

For some reason yours just looks spot on and perfect.

Are the forks at 150 or 160.

I take it your bars are lower than your saddle when the dropper is extended.

How do you find the bike then.

Ton & thisisnotaspoon: That picture is looking at Mont Jovet, Savoie region, French Alps. The climb in front which starts as a double track, soon goes into very steep singletrack, too steep to ride and you end up doing a bit of hike a bike. Eventually you get to the top at 2439m, then its pretty much a two+ hour descent with awesome views.

This is one of the all day rides with The White Room. 😉

I have a [url=

from a couple of years ago, but its pretty shit.

And here's thisisnotaspoon's old Pitch in it's current incarnation. Probably lighter now with Revelation forks rather than Lyriks and with an RP23 instead of the RP2. Love it.
Great for messing around riding my local moors/woods and a very capable enduro race machine.
