In my next project quest I'm looking at building up a Longish slack hardtail with existing parts. Without going for Boost adaptors on my existing rear wheels I'm just wondering what might be out there in the way of frames (second hand) which are 142x12 rear and designed around a 120mm ish fork.

I'm thinking 460mm ish reach 66 ish head angle and no longer than 460mm seat tube. steel or alu. 2.5" tyres.....

Moon on a stick??

Yeti ARC
Can take 120mm fork but designed around a 130 with a 67 HTA
Takes 2.6
It’s carbon though

Ah, carbon would be fine too.

Must be 29er wheels too

Thanks for suggestions so far

A slightly under-forked Stanton Switch9er would probably hit most of your marks. Clearance for 2.5 may be a bit snug depending on tyre choice. Or a custom Sherpa with shorter seat-tube...

BTW, Boost adapters are fine if you can get them for your hub - I've run them on a couple of bikes for years. It would greatly increase your options too..

142 rear means almost certainly second hand and probably pre 2018, so 29ers will be harder to come by I imagine.
In reality I expect the easiest solution will be a new boost rear hub, which will open up much more options, new and used.

Very much so. just wondering if I'd missed an option before going that route.

few manufacturers use changeable dropouts
DMR
Banshee
Stanton or Cotic? can't remember which...

Obviously you can size up too on an older more traditional frame if you go that route and have enough standover, I had a Large DMR Trailstar although id usually only ride a Medium

Should be do-able, you just need a brand that got on board with shorter seat tubes early, so you can size up to a large.

You might have to trawl through a lot of old reviews and geo charts though.

Whyte might be a good place to start?

Crumbs. A current Yeti ARC is a lovely thing.... that would smash this project out of the water a bit!

Was going to suggest Bird Zero TR (second hand) if you want 27.5 but won't take 2.5" tyre. But anyway for reference large is R 472, ST 470, HA 66.2/68 static/sagged.

Surely a squatch is boost?

If you want to go really back in time, revert the hub back to 135qr and get a last fast forward if you can find one… although bb would be very low with 120 forks. A large with 140 forks has 64 HA 450 reach and seat tube. They have sliding dropouts with a 6mm offset so re-dish required to but opens up single speed silliness too.

Some orange hardtails tick your boxes. I had a clockwork 120mm, maybe a 2018? It had 135mm rear end. Some of the similar year clockworks and crush had 142mm.

I've had boost adaptors in my bike for a couple of years now. They haven't been a huge amount of trouble. I'd just get the £15 adaptors and widen your choice of frame.
